The summer sun shone intensely over Lisboa, filling the city with light and warmth.
It was a perfect day for family outings, and Miguel, Ana, and Vasco were on their way to the Oceanário de Lisboa.
The streets were full of tourists and locals, all eager to enjoy the sunny day.
Miguel held his father Vasco's hand, while Ana walked ahead, not taking her eyes off her cellphone.
Miguel was only ten years old, but his determination to show bravery was as strong as the sun that bathed the city.
Upon reaching the Oceanário, they were welcomed by a world of aquatic wonders.
The vibrantly colored fish swam majestically in the huge tanks.
Miguel watched everything with fascination, but a persistent thought lingered in his mind: "I have to prove that I'm brave."
Ana, already accustomed to these visits, was more interested in taking selfies than in watching the fish.
Vasco wanted both children to have fun and, at the same time, take the opportunity to learn about the sea.
The highlight of the Oceanário was the underwater tunnel, where sharks and rays swam back and forth, practically within arm's reach.
No entanto, para Miguel, tratava-se do maior desafio do dia.
However, for Miguel, it was the biggest challenge of the day.
The idea of entering that dark tunnel gave him chills, but he didn't want his father and sister to notice his fear.
Respirando fundo, Miguel decidiu que seria brave.
Taking a deep breath, Miguel decided he would be brave.
Ele deu o primeiro passo no túnel.
He took the first step into the tunnel.
Ana was so distracted that she didn't even notice her brother's hesitation.
His father, however, gave a supportive smile and held Miguel's shoulder, conveying confidence.
De repente, as luzes do túnel piscam e apagam-se.
Suddenly, the tunnel lights flickered and went out.
Tudo ficou envolto em escuridão.
Everything was enveloped in darkness.
Miguel sentiu o coração acelerar.
Miguel felt his heart race.
He heard murmurs of fear from the other visitors, and Ana also started to complain.
Pegou no telemóvel e acendeu a lanterna.
But Miguel remembered what his father always said: “Courage is knowing how to control fear.” He grabbed his cellphone and turned on the flashlight.
With the beam of light cutting through the darkness, he began to guide the family along the path.
Vasco was proud, and Ana, for the first time, stopped to admire her younger brother.
Após alguns minutos, as luzes voltaram e o túnel voltou a estar iluminado pelas belezas do oceano.
After a few minutes, the lights returned, and the tunnel was once again illuminated by the beauties of the ocean.
Miguel sorriu, sentindo-se aliviado e triunfante.
Miguel smiled, feeling relieved and triumphant.
"Boa, Miguel!"
"Well done, Miguel!"
disse o pai.
said his father.
"Foste muito corajoso."
"You were very brave."
Ana, still astonished, gave her brother a little shove, a gesture that in sister language meant approval and respect.
At the end of the day, as they left the Oceanário, Miguel realized that proving his courage was less about showing others and more about overcoming his own fears.
Sorrindo para si mesmo, sentiu-se mais maduro.
Smiling to himself, he felt more mature.
Walking alongside his father and sister, Miguel knew that on that day, he had grown up a bit more.
