On an autumn day, when the leaves covered the ground like gold, Oksana stood by the window of the orphanage, looking at the horizon.

She dreamed of her home, of a family that would be waiting for her.

But for now, that was just a dream.

Ahead was the cultural festival at school, and Oksana knew it was her chance.

The orphanage was located on the edge of a small Ukrainian town.

Inside, in the classroom, there was lively chatter.

The children were hanging colorful ribbons and paper crafts.

Oksana, though she was only a 12-year-old girl, felt responsible for the younger ones.

She aspired to create the best cultural presentation to attract the attention of potential adoptive families.

Resources in the orphanage were limited.

Sometimes even the most basic necessities were lacking.

    But Oksana didn't give up.

She decided to use materials she could find in nature.

    Autumn was her ally.

Together with her friends Mykola and Dmytro, she went in search of colorful leaves, acorns, and chestnuts.

Upon returning to the orphanage, they started working.

They glued the leaves into garlands, turned acorns into animal figures, and chestnuts became decorations.

    Everything had to look special.

Oksana tried to put her heart and soul into every detail of the presentation.

Finally, the day of the festival arrived.

The children filled the hall, and their creations became a true highlight.

Oksana held herself with confidence, though her heart was beating faster than usual.

The presentation was going successfully until suddenly everything halted: one of the poles to which the garlands were attached wobbled.

Everyone was worried, but Oksana didn't panic.

She quickly remembered how they braided wreaths with friends in the forest.

Instantly springing into action, she grabbed an extra garland she had stashed away just in case.

Oksana, Mykola, and Dmytro carefully adjusted the structure, and everything was back in order.

    The audience applauded them.

    They succeeded, despite everything.

That evening, Oksana didn't receive the family she dreamed of, but she found something equally important — faith in her own abilities and the support of her friends.

She realized that even in the most challenging situations, there is a way out if one has an open heart and believes in the better.

And so, under the starry sky, where the leaves rustled, Oksana felt warmth and satisfaction from a job well done.

It was the beginning of something new, and she knew her efforts would not go unnoticed.
