The hospital was quiet.
The walls had a somber color, and the scent of antiseptic was a reminder of pain and fear.
At times, it seemed that the world ended beyond these doors.
But there, outside the window, golden leaves were slowly falling.
Autumn was making itself known.
In the ward, among the instruments and narrow beds, sat Nadiya and Maksym.
They stayed by Oleksandr, who lay there after a car accident.
Oleksandr had been their support, but now he needed help.
"Sashko, are you holding up?"
Nadiya asked, trying to smile, even though the anxiety in her heart wouldn't leave her.
"I'm fine, Nadiya," replied Oleksandr, even though inside he felt fear for the future.
He wanted to assure his family that everything would be okay.
Maksym, sitting by the window, kept his head bowed.
He felt guilty.
He had been the one driving when the accident happened.
"Dad, I'm sorry," he finally uttered with a tremble in his voice.
His eyes welled up with tears.
"It's all my fault."
"Son, no one is to blame for this.
It was an accident," Oleksandr replied, reaching out to Maksym.
"We need to overcome this together."
Nadiya looked at both of them.
Her heart was breaking, but she knew that the family together could overcome any difficulties.
"Let's be strong," she said, embracing them both.
"Pokrova is soon.
It's the holiday of hope and protection.
We will also receive protection."
November continued to blanket the streets.
The family sat, united by the strength of love and hope.
They understood that more important than anything was being together.
Now each of them had a new role: to support each other, to live in peace.
And although the road to recovery was long, they knew they would overcome everything together.
The closed ward doors no longer seemed so frightening.
They opened, and through them shone the light of the autumn sun.
This was a new beginning for the family, and Nadiya, Oleksandr, and Maksym were ready to face it with dignity.
