V lesketajočem se jesenskem popoldnevu so oranžni in rdeči listi na drevesih osvetlili majhno hišo v predmestju Ljubljane.
On a shimmering autumn afternoon, the orange and red leaves on the trees illuminated a small house in the suburbs of Ljubljana.
The interior of the house was warm and welcoming, yet slightly untidy.
The dining table was laden with family photographs, and the walls were adorned with shelves covered in old books and children's trophies.
The scent of freshly baked roast filled the room.
Mateja, the middle child among three siblings, quietly sat at the table, her face joyful yet contemplative.
Her thoughts revolved around a job offer in London.
It was an exciting opportunity, but she knew that revealing it wouldn't be simple.
Poleg nje je sedel Anže, najstarejši, srhljivo tih in vedno pripravljen na besedni dvoboj.
Next to her sat Anže, the eldest, eerily silent and always ready for a verbal duel.
Beside him was Vesna, who had recently begun to express her opinions more vocally.
"Lunch is on the table," their mother said as she brought the last plate.
The family gathered around the table, each with their own thoughts.
"Mateja, kako gre služba?" je vprašal Anže, preden je ugriznil v sočni kos mesa.
"Mateja, how's work going?" Anže asked before taking a bite of the juicy piece of meat.
Mateja je vdihnila.
Mateja inhaled.
"Good, but... there's something I need to say," she began, her words drifting into the air as gently as an autumn leaf falling to the ground.
Vesna looked at her intently, while Anže put down his cutlery.
"What is it?" he asked, his tone already sharp.
Mateji je srce hitreje utripalo.
Mateja's heart raced.
"I have a job offer in London," she said, exhaled loudly, and waited for their reaction.
V jedilnici je zavladala tišina.
Silence descended in the dining room.
Anže je najprej spregovoril, njegov obraz je bil napet.
Anže spoke first, his face tense.
"Resno? In kdaj si nameravala povedati?"
"Seriously? And when were you going to tell us?"
Mateja se je preselila nervozno na stolu.
Mateja shifted nervously in her chair.
"Zdaj. Zato... govorim zdaj."
"Now. That's why... I'm speaking now."
Vesna je pogledala Matejo, nato Anžeta.
Vesna looked at Mateja, then at Anže.
"Why do you always act like every change is a mistake? I think it's a wonderful opportunity."
Anže banged on the table, the cutlery jumped.
"Družina bi morala biti najpomembnejša. Ne smeš nas zapustiti."
"Family should be most important. You can't leave us."
"Anže, ni konec sveta," je nežno protestirala Vesna, a tokrat z nekoliko močnejšim glasom.
"Anže, it's not the end of the world," Vesna gently protested, but this time with a slightly stronger voice.
Mateja je dvignila pogled.
Mateja lifted her gaze.
"Želim, da ste vsi na moji strani. Hočem svojo prihodnost."
"I want you all on my side. I want my future."
The tension loosened as her words sank into the consciousness of all three.
Anže je stisnil pesti, nato jih počasi sprostil.
Anže clenched his fists, then slowly released them.
"Oprosti, samo zaščitniško se počutim. Vedno nas je bilo skupaj."
"Sorry, I just feel protective. We've always been together."
Vesna gently placed a hand on her brother's shoulder.
"Vsi si zaslužimo svojo pot. In prav je tako."
"We all deserve our own path. And that's how it should be."
From an ordinary Sunday lunch, a new understanding matured in the hidden corners of their hearts.
Matejina odločnost je v vsemu kaosu pokazala pot naprej.
Mateja's determination showed a way forward in all the chaos.
Anže finally saw that sometimes the balance between care and control is the right way.
And Vesna felt more confident than ever before.
As they finished the meal together, all three realized that they could change, but the family remains.
Spreminjajo se listi, a veje vedno nosijo nove liste naslednje pomladi.
Leaves change, but the branches always carry new leaves the following spring.
