Ljubljana was now just a shadow of the city it once was.
Počasi je življenje spet izbralo svojo pot skozi razpokane ulice, krto vile in podrtine, kjer so sončni žarki le s težavo prebili zavese prahu in rastlinja.
Slowly, life was finding its way back through the cracked streets, deserted villas, and ruins, where sun rays struggled to penetrate the curtains of dust and vegetation.
The market in the city center was one of the few places where people still gathered, driven there only by the need for survival, to seek food and medicine.
Miha cautiously approached the largest stall at the market.
Once an engineer, now a resourceful survivor, he was seeking supplies for his group.
Potreboval je hrano in zdravila.
He needed food and medicine.
He could still hear the soothing voice of Sara, who, as a former nurse, took care of everyone in the group.
"Miha, naredi, kar bo potrebno," mu je rekla pred odhodom.
"Miha, do what needs to be done," she told him before he left.
Pomembno je bilo, da ničesar ne tvega.
It was important not to take any risks.
Behind the stall stood Gorazd, a tradesman known for being grumpy and inaccessible.
It was said he had a soft heart, though no one had yet proven it.
Miha je bil pripravljen preizkusiti srečo.
Miha was ready to try his luck.
"Gorazd, potrebujeva nekaj zalog.
"Gorazd, we need some supplies. I have these batteries," he said, placing the precious battery packs on the table, which he had saved for times of need.
Gorazd je hladno pogledal baterije, nato Miho.
Gorazd coldly looked at the batteries, then at Miha.
"The batteries won’t last long," he said, "and there aren't many supplies either."
V njegovem glasu je bil videti pomešan skrb in nejevolja.
His voice carried a mix of concern and annoyance.
Before they could continue, the market echoed with cries and shouts.
Nova skupina je vdrla in poskušala presekati njun dogovor.
A new group burst in, trying to interrupt their deal.
Miha se je znašel v napeti situaciji.
Miha was caught in a tense situation.
Moral je izbrati.
He had to choose.
Bi vztrajal ali našel drug način?
Would he persist or find another way?
He looked at Gorazd, who was understandably distrustful, yet for a moment, he recognized a glimmer of compassion in his eyes.
To so bile sekunde odločitve.
It was a moment of decision.
"Gorazd," he said calmly, "we're all here to survive. We don't need more enemies."
Gorazd je ves šokiran trenutek molčal.
Gorazd was silent for a moment, shocked.
Skleniva dogovor."
After a brief pause, he finally replied, "Alright, Miha. Let's make a deal."
They shook hands and finally reached an agreement that saved them both.
As Miha left the market with a better feeling, his thoughts kept coming.
Sočutje ni bila povsem zapostavljena vrlina niti v teh težkih časih.
Compassion wasn't a completely neglected virtue even in these tough times.
He learned how connecting people can overcome hatred and mistrust, and Gorazd, who stood beside him, realized how important sharing and cooperation are.
With a smile, Miha knew they would make it through the summer with the provisions they had.
