Matej quietly observed the road as he and his friends drove out of town.

It was May 1, Labor Day, when people usually gathered for picnics or hikes.

However, he, along with Tanja and Vesna, decided on a spontaneous trip.

Spring had brought freshness to the air, the fields were green, the flowers were blooming, and the birds were singing their song.

“Where are we going?” Tanja asked with her practical yet concerned eyes, as they veered off familiar paths.

“I don’t know, we’re just driving,” responded Matej with a smile.

He wanted to leave behind work, responsibilities, and the repetitive routine of life.

  • Čutil je, da mora nekaj spremeniti. Morda ta izlet? Ali nekaj drugega?

He felt something needed to change. Maybe this trip? Or something else?

Vesna, with a wide smile and hair tousled by the wind, said, “What matters is that we are going. Let’s just let the road guide us.”

She was always the one who made unusual ideas come true.

  • Vendar, stvari so se zapletle. Nekoliko pozneje so zavili z glavne ceste in se izgubili.

However, things got complicated. A little later, they veered off the main road and got lost.

  • Matejev GPS ni več deloval.

    Matej's GPS stopped working.

  • Potem so zaslišali čuden zvok iz motorja. Avto se je ustavil.

Then they heard a strange noise from the engine. The car stopped.

  • »Kaj zdaj?« je vprašala Tanja, ko so vsi trije stali ob cesti.

“What now?” Tanja asked, as all three stood by the roadside.

  • Kje so bili? Vetrovke so jih zaščitile pred hladnim spomladanskim vetrom.

Where were they? Their jackets protected them from the chilly spring wind.

Matej just shrugged, constantly reassuring Tanja and Vesna that everything was fine.

  • Hodili so dalje po cesti, dokler niso našli star, zapuščeni skladišče, že skoraj skritega pod pomladanskimi trtami.

They continued to walk along the road until they found an old, abandoned warehouse, almost hidden beneath the spring vines.

The air was damp from recent rain, which they felt on their skin, while the smell of fresh and green mixed with the scent of old and abandoned.

There, they decided to spend the night. Evening fell, and the trio sat among the beams and old boxes.

In the dark warehouse, by the crackling fire they managed to light with improvisation, Tanja started a conversation.

  • »Matej, bežimo, a pred čim?« Besede so bile preproste, a prežeta s težo.

“Matej, we’re running, but from what?” The words were simple, yet laden with weight.

Matej looked into the flames and felt Vesna leaning in to give him support.

  • »Ne vem več. Morda pred sabo.

“I don’t know anymore. Maybe from myself. Maybe I want to take more from life,” he confessed, his voice trembling.

“But don’t you think it can be different? Calmly, realistically? Not always like a runaway?” asked Tanja with a soft voice.

Silence followed, only the crackling of the fire filled the space.

  • Po dolgem razmisleku je Matej končno pokimal. »Morda imaš prav,« je rekel.

After long contemplation, Matej finally nodded. “Maybe you’re right,” he said.

  • »Ne morem večno bežati. Poskusil bom to, drugače, skupaj z vama.«

“I can’t keep running forever. I’ll try this differently, with you two.”

  • Sledilo je olajšanje. Med njima je zavladal nov mir.

Relief followed. A new peace settled among them.

The next morning, as birds broke the silence with cheerful singing, they returned to the car.

Vesna found an old map in her pocket that helped them get back on track.

Matej had made a decision. Unknowingly, he left behind a part of himself that feared change.

  • Ko so končno našli znano cesto, je Matej sedel za volan, vendar tokrat ni bil sam.

When they finally found a familiar road, Matej sat behind the wheel, but this time he was not alone.

  • Tanja in Vesna sta sedeli ob njemu, skupaj v pravi smeri.

Tanja and Vesna sat beside him, together in the right direction.

  • Preko spomladanskega dne so peljali proti domu, a z novimi pogledi na to, kam jih bo življenje še popeljalo.

Across the spring day, they drove toward home, but with new perspectives on where life might lead them next.
