Snow covered the square by Blejsko jezero, where the Christmas market was taking place.
Lučke so žarele povsod naokoli, dišalo je po kuhanem vinu in pečenem kostanju.
Lights glowed everywhere around, and the aroma of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts filled the air.
Mateja walked among the stalls, looking at the beautifully decorated items.
She was an artist from Bled, but this joyful time brought her a sense of loneliness.
Suzana, her good friend, persuaded her to come to the market.
"Maybe you'll find something special or meet someone new," she said with a smile.
Mateja wasn't sure, but she came just in case.
Meanwhile, Jure, a visitor from Ljubljana, was looking for a gift for his mother.
Želel je nekaj posebnega, edinstvenega.
He wanted something special, unique.
He seemed somewhat confused amidst the crowd of people and stalls.
Mateja je kmalu opazila Jureta.
Mateja soon noticed Jure.
Videti je bil rahlo nelagodno, kar ji je bilo znano.
He looked a bit uneasy, which was familiar to her.
Not knowing what drove her, she decided to approach him.
"Iščeš kaj posebnega?
"Are you looking for something special?"
" ga je vprašala.
she asked him.
Jure initially glanced around nervously, but when he saw her friendly face, he smiled.
"Da, potrebujem darilo za mamo.
"Yes, I need a gift for my mother.
But I don't know what would be most suitable."
Mateja helped him look over the stalls; they tried out a few items and discussed the options.
Medtem je Jure Mateji pripovedoval o svoji mami in njunih božičnih tradicijah.
Meanwhile, Jure told Mateja about his mother and their Christmas traditions.
"I think this wooden bowl is ideal," Jure finally concluded.
Zadovoljni sta si privoščila kuhančki.
Content, they treated themselves to mulled wine.
They sat on a nearby bench and watched people laughing and rejoicing around them.
The conversation continued as they shared stories of the past, art, and life.
"You know, you really have a talent for advising," he told her, laughing.
"If it weren't for you, I don't know what I would have bought."
«Mateja je začutila toplino v srcu.
Mateja felt warmth in her heart.
Morda je bilo to prijateljstvo, morda nekaj več.
Maybe it was friendship, maybe something more.
As they were setting off their separate ways, they exchanged phone numbers.
»Ohrani stik,« ji je Jure rekel.
"Keep in touch," Jure told her.
Mateja je pokimala in se odpravila domov.
Mateja nodded and headed home.
Walking through the freshly fallen snow, she felt hopeful.
Morda je bil ta večer začetek nečesa lepega.
Perhaps this evening was the beginning of something beautiful.
She was no longer alone; winter didn't seem so cold anymore.
