Matej walked through the Ljubljana Central Market with eager eyes.
Jesensko sonce je sijalo skozi drevje in po stojnicah razsipalo barve.
The autumn sun shone through the trees and scattered colors across the stalls.
There was almost no wind, but a cold breeze reminded them that winter was just around the corner.
Matej was determined to find the perfect Slovenian cultural artifact for his school project.
Ob njem sta hodila Lenart in Anja.
Walking beside him were Lenart and Anja.
Lenart, kot vedno, ni mogel zadržati svojih šal.
Lenart, as always, couldn't resist his jokes.
"Poglej tisto bučo, Matej!
"Look at that pumpkin, Matej!
Skoraj tako velika, kot je tvoja domišljija!
Almost as big as your imagination!"
" je vzkliknil Lenart, in Anja se je nasmehnila.
exclaimed Lenart, and Anja smiled.
"Mora biti res poseben artefakt," je rekel Matej z napetostjo v glasu.
"It has to be a really special artifact," said Matej with tension in his voice.
"Mogoče nekaj z zgodovinsko vrednostjo.
"Maybe something with historical value."
"Anja je pokimala.
Anja nodded.
"Vem nekaj o fotografiji tvojega časa," je rekla potiho.
"I know something about photography from your time," she said quietly.
"Tukajšnji trgi so zgodovinski sami po sebi.
"These markets are historical in themselves.
Poglej z očmi fotografa.
Look with a photographer’s eyes."
"Sprehajali so se mimo stojnic, ki so bile polne svežega sadja, zelenjave in domačih izdelkov.
They strolled past stalls filled with fresh fruits, vegetables, and homemade products.
Matej tried not to get too distracted, but his friends had their own ideas.
"Diši po klobasah!
"It smells like sausages!"
" se je prebudila Lenartova radovednost, ko je sledil vonju po kranjskih klobasah.
Lenart’s curiosity piqued as he followed the scent of kranjska sausages.
"Matej, moraš to poizkusit!
"Matej, you have to try this!"
"Matej se je nasmehnil, ampak stresel je z glavo.
Matej smiled, but shook his head.
"Kasneje, Lenart.
"Later, Lenart.
Imam samo omejen čas.
I have only a limited time."
"Po polurnem iskanju je Matej postal nemiren.
After half an hour of searching, Matej became restless.
"Ne bom našel ničesa dovolj dobrega," je zavzdihnil.
"I won't find anything good enough," he sighed.
A takrat ga je v kotu ene izmed stojnic nekaj pritegnilo.
But then something caught his attention in the corner of one of the stalls.
Majhen, starinski razglednica.
A small, antique postcard.
It featured the Dragon Bridge with classic cars in the background.
Bil je popolnoma ohranjen.
It was perfectly preserved.
Matej je vedel, da je to to.
Matej knew that this was it.
"To je popolno," je rekel, ko je pogledal na uro.
"This is perfect," he said as he glanced at the time.
"Ampak zamujamo na avtobus!
"But we're running late for the bus!"
"Drveli so skozi tržnico, med tem ko Lenart še mesno pršilo oddal mojo pričakovanje na pult.
They dashed through the market, while Lenart reluctantly left his meaty anticipation on the counter.
Z zadnjimi močmi so ujeli svoj razred, tik preden je avtobus odpeljal.
With a last burst of energy, they caught up with their class just as the bus was about to leave.
Matej je sedel, zadovoljen z razglednico, stisnjeno v roki.
Matej sat, satisfied with the postcard clutched in his hand.
He knew that this unexpected discovery had taught him something important: sometimes you have to let the journey take you, even if you know what you need.
Lenart se je nasmehnil.
Lenart grinned.
"Še vedno bi lahko šli po klobase.
"We still could have gone for sausages."
"Anja je prikimala.
Anja nodded.
"Mogoče prihodnjič.
"Maybe next time."
"S čudovito Ljubljansko osrednjo tržnico za sabo in popolnim artefaktom v rokah so se vsi trije naučili ceniti trenutke, ki jih življenje ponudi.
With the beautiful Ljubljana Central Market behind them and the perfect artifact in hand, all three learned to appreciate the moments life offers.
