Matúš tried to swallow a bite of mashed potatoes, but a lump remained in his throat.

Už dávno sa cítil ako čierna ovca rodiny, často v tieni Janiných úspechov.

He had long felt like the black sheep of the family, often in the shadow of Jana’s achievements.

Katarína sedela medzi súrodencami, pokúšajúc sa zmeniť tému.

Katarína sat between the siblings, trying to change the subject.

"Pozri, aké sú tie listy krásne teraz na jeseň! Matúš, čo si myslíš o našom rozkvitajúcom strome vonku?" snažila sa nenápadne odvrátiť pozornosť.

"Look how beautiful the leaves are now in autumn! Matúš, what do you think about our blooming tree outside?" she tried to divert attention subtly.

No Matúša to len posmelilo otvoriť ústa, ktoré tak dlho zadržiavali jeho pocity.

But it only encouraged Matúš to open his mouth, which had long withheld his feelings.

"Jana, vieš, všetci ťa tu obdivujú, ale ja... mám pocit, že ma nikto nevidí," začal opatrne, hlas sa mu triasol.

"Jana, you know, everyone admires you here, but I... feel like no one sees me," he began cautiously, his voice trembling.

"Počúvam len o tom, aká si úspešná. Ale ja som tiež tu. Môj život nie je taký ako tvoj, ale aj ja si zaslúžim trochu úcty," pokračoval, snažiac sa udržať očný kontakt so sestrou.

"I only hear about how successful you are. But I am here too. My life isn’t like yours, but I too deserve a little respect," he continued, trying to maintain eye contact with his sister.

Jana sa na Matúša pozrela, šokovaná jeho slovami.

Jana looked at Matúš, shocked by his words.

Nebola si vedomá jeho pocitov.

She was unaware of his feelings.

"Matúš, nikdy som nechcela, aby si sa tak cítil. Prepač, ak som ti dala pocit, že si menejcenný. To nebolo mojim zámer," odpovedala úprimne.

"Matúš, I never wanted you to feel that way. I'm sorry if I made you feel inferior. That was not my intention," she replied sincerely.

V miestnosti zavládlo ticho.

Silence dominated the room.

Katarína sa usmiala, konečne videla zárodok porozumenia medzi súrodencami.

Katarína smiled, finally seeing the seed of understanding between the siblings.

"Všetci sme tu, nie preto, aby sme súťažili, ale aby sme si pomáhali. Matúš, ty máš veľa, čo ponúknuť," dodala jemne.

"We are all here, not to compete, but to help each other. Matúš, you have a lot to offer," she added gently.

Večera pokračovala v pokoji, no so sľubom zmeny.

Dinner continued in peace, but with a promise of change.

Týmto malým momentom dosiahla rodina pochopenie, o ktoré sa usilovali.

Matúš cítil, že vykročil na novú cestu.
