Under the bright yellow, orange, and red leaves that were gradually falling from the trees around the majestic Bratislavský hrad, Ján was walking down the steep slope, holding hands with Marta.

  • Jánove srdce bilo rýchlo.

    Ján's heart was beating fast.

  • Bol nervózny.

    He was nervous.

Marta, who was enthusiastic about history, had told him she wanted to learn more about the castle, so Ján devised a plan.

  • Rozhodol sa ju ohúriť svojimi "znalosťami".

He decided to impress her with his "knowledge."

  • „Vitajte v Bratislavskom hrade,“ začal Ján, pričom nasadil vážny výraz.

"Welcome to Bratislavský hrad," Ján began, adopting a serious expression.

Marta laughed and was clearly enjoying his attempt at playing the role of a tour guide.

"This castle is... very old... and was home to many kings," he added hesitantly, as all the knowledge he had gained from his recent quick browse of Wikipedia scattered.

  • Marta sa usmiala, jej oči žiarili zvedavosťou.

Marta smiled, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

  • „Aha, a ktorých kráľov? Povedz mi viac!“ zatlačila.

"Oh, and which kings? Tell me more!" she urged.

  • Ján si zalomil rukávy a pokúsil sa usadiť do príbehu.

Ján rolled up his sleeves and attempted to settle into the story.

  • „No, jeden z najvýznamnejších kráľov... bol kráľ Hubert,“ vymyslel si.

"Well, one of the most significant kings... was King Hubert," he made up.

"It's precisely in his honor that the celebration of Saint Hubert is taking place today," he added, happy with the connection he remembered from an event flyer he saw at the square earlier that morning.

  • Marta zvedavo prikývla, ale potom sa zamyslela.

Marta nodded curiously but then pondered.

  • „Nie je svätý Hubert patrónom lovcov? Prečo by tu mal niečo spoločné s kráľmi?"

"Isn't Saint Hubert the patron of hunters? Why would he have anything to do with kings?"

  • Ján sa snažil utrieť pot z čela.

Ján tried to wipe the sweat from his forehead.

  • Jeho pokusy o históriu začínali praskat.

His attempts at history were starting to crack.

"Yes, of course, he was... also a king and a great hunter," he excused himself.

However, he realized his story didn't make sense.

As they approached the sunset over the city, Marta stopped and gently took his hand.

  • „Ján, nemusíš ma ohromiť,“ povedala s úsmevom.

"Ján, you don't have to impress me," she said with a smile.

  • „Ja by som radšej chcela preskúmať hrad s tebou a skutočným sprievodcom.

"I'd rather explore the castle with you and a real guide.

  • Môžeme si kúpiť knižku a naučiť sa niečo spolu.“

We can buy a book and learn something together."

Ján sighed, but warmth and relief sprouted within him.

  • „Máš pravdu, Marta.

    "You're right, Marta.

  • Som rád, že to chápeš,“ priznal úprimne, hoci trochu hanblivo.

I'm glad you understand," he admitted honestly, though a little sheepishly.

In the end, they both delved into a book that brought true stories about the castle.

As the sun slowly sank below the horizon, warm golden hues were cast on their faces.

  • Ján pochopil niečo veľmi dôležité – byť sám sebou je oveľa väčším dojmom ako byť niekým iným.

Ján realized something very important—being oneself is far more impressive than trying to be someone else.

  • A tak prešli ospalými chodníčkami hradu, plní radosti z prítomného okamihu a skutočnej histórie.

And so they walked through the sleepy paths of the castle, full of joy for the present moment and real history.
