V jedno krásne jarné popoludnie, Ján kráčal po hlavnej ulici do miestneho obchodu s potravinami.
On one beautiful spring afternoon, Ján was walking down the main street to the local grocery store.
Všade kvitli kvety a vtáci spievali.
Flowers were blooming everywhere, and birds were singing.
Ján miloval jarné dni, no tentokrát bol jeho krok ťažký.
Ján loved spring days, but this time his step was heavy.
Stále premýšľal o tom, čo videl pred pár dňami.
He kept thinking about what he had witnessed a few days ago.
Pri regáloch s ovocím vošiel do obchodu vysoký muž.
At the fruit shelves, a tall man entered the store.
Rýchlo si napchal do vrecka niekoľko balíkov čokolády a bez zaplatenia odišiel.
He quickly stuffed several packets of chocolate into his pocket and left without paying.
Ján to videl na vlastné oči, no strach z reakcie toho muža ho odrádzal udávať.
Ján saw it with his own eyes, but the fear of the man's reaction deterred him from reporting it.
Dnes však bol iný deň.
Today, however, was a different day.
Ján zbieral odvahu a zamieril na policajnú stanicu.
Ján gathered his courage and headed to the police station.
Stanica bola plná policajtov vo uniformách.
The station was full of uniformed officers.
Všetko sa zdalo byť v pohybe – telefóny zvonili, klávesnice klapali.
Everything seemed to be in motion – phones were ringing, keyboards clattering.
Ján cítil trému v žalúdku, keď sa postavil k pultu.
Ján felt butterflies in his stomach as he stepped up to the counter.
„Dobrý deň, rád by som niečo nahlásil,“ začal Ján, jeho hlas sa trochu triasol.
"Good day, I would like to report something," Ján began, his voice trembling a bit.
The officer at the counter, a young man with a friendly smile, leaned in to hear better.
„Áno, prosím.
"Yes, please.
Ako vám môžem pomôcť?
How can I help you?"
“ spýtal sa policajt povzbudivo.
the officer asked encouragingly.
Ján hľadel na policajta, nervózny, ale odhodlaný.
Ján looked at the officer, nervous but determined.
„Bol som svedkom krádeže.
"I witnessed a theft.
V obchode s potravinami.
In the grocery store.
Muž ukradol čokolády.
A man stole chocolates."
“„Videli ste jeho tvár?
"Did you see his face?
Alebo si pamätáte niečo iné?
Or do you remember anything else?"
“ spýtal sa policajt, pričom si zapisoval každučkú informáciu.
asked the officer, noting down every piece of information.
Ján prikývol a podrobne opísal muža, jeho tmavú bundu a nezvyčajný klobúk na hlave.
Ján nodded and described the man in detail, his dark jacket, and the unusual hat on his head.
Policajt ho pozorne počúval a znova sa usmial.
The officer listened attentively and smiled again.
„Je dobré, že ste to nahlásili, Ján.
"It's good that you reported it, Ján.
Vaša odvaha je obdivuhodná.
Your bravery is commendable.
Ubezpečujem vás, že vaša identita zostane za každých okolností utajená,“ povedal pokojne a povzbudzujúco.
I assure you that your identity will remain confidential under all circumstances," he said calmly and reassuringly.
Ján sa cítil menej vystrašený a viac sebavedomý.
Ján felt less scared and more confident.
Úľava a pocit zadosťučinenia ho naplnili.
Relief and a sense of satisfaction filled him.
By deciding to act, he gained new courage.
He felt that justice had meaning and that his voice had value.
Keď Ján opúšťal stanicu, slnko stále svietilo a vzduch bol plný jarných vôní.
As Ján left the station, the sun was still shining, and the air was full of spring scents.
He knew he had done the right thing, and deep in his heart, he felt he had just taken the first step toward being an active defender of justice.
He was ready not to be afraid to stand up for what is right.
He saw it as one of the greatest victories of his life.
