Ľubomír stopped in front of the old wooden house that was his home during childhood.
He couldn't remember the last time he was inside, but he knew it had been far too long.
Jar sa rozprestierala okolo neho v plnej kráse.
Spring lay around him in full glory.
Vtáky spievali a prvé kvety sa predierali zemou.
Birds sang, and the first flowers pushed through the ground.
Sunbeams pierced through the shutters, but those same beams also illuminated the dust that had settled on the old things in this room.
Veci, ktoré nosili spomienky, niektoré šťastné, iné plné bolesti.
Things that carried memories, some happy, others filled with pain.
In the living room, which was the central point of all family celebrations and arguments, Jana and Pavol were already sitting.
Ľubomírov brat a sestra.
Ľubomír's brother and sister.
Their faces were tense, as if they were expecting something unpleasant.
Nekonečné odmlky napätia zaplnili priestory medzi nimi.
Endless pauses of tension filled the spaces between them.
Prekročiť prah tejto miestnosti znamenalo viac než len vstúpiť dovnútra.
Crossing the threshold of this room meant more than just stepping inside.
It meant returning and dealing with a past that Ľubomír and his siblings had ignored for so long.
„Ahojte,“ povedal Ľubomír, hlas sa mu triasol, keď prelomil ticho.
"Hello," said Ľubomír, his voice trembling as he broke the silence.
At first, it seemed like his words were lost in the negative feelings hanging in the air.
Jana mierne prikývla, Pavol odvrátil pohľad.
Jana nodded slightly, Pavol turned his gaze away.
Ľubomír chcel vyriešiť staré nezhody, porozumieť a začať odznova.
Ľubomír wanted to resolve old disagreements, understand, and start anew.
He didn't know how well he would manage, but he decided it was time for change.
"I want to talk with you about the past," he began sincerely and after a short pause added, "I realize that I've made a lot of mistakes."
Jana a Pavol na seba pozreli, ich tiché dohody a nesúhlasy sa zjavne nezmenili.
Jana and Pavol looked at each other, their silent agreements and disagreements evidently unchanged.
„Prečo teraz?“ opýtala sa Jana so skepsou. „Prečo po všetkých tých rokoch?“
"Why now?" asked Jana skeptically. "Why after all these years?"
Ľubomír pokrčil plecami. Veľmi dobre poznal ich nedôveru.
Ľubomír shrugged. He was very familiar with their distrust.
„Kvôli deťom... a kvôli nám.
"For the children... and for us. It might already be too late for complete peace, but we're here together not just for ourselves," he said.
The conversation slowly developed, like snowflakes falling from the sky.
Niekedy vládlo ticho, inokedy sa ozval hlas.
Sometimes silence reigned, other times a voice was heard.
Stále viac slov prenikalo hlbočiznými rokmi mlčania.
More and more words penetrated the deep years of silence.
Pavol pod priamym pohľadom Ľubomíra priznal, že pocítil zradu, keď ho Ľubomír nepodporil v sporoch.
Pavol, under Ľubomír's direct gaze, admitted that he felt betrayed when Ľubomír didn't support him in arguments.
Jana complained about the lack of support and mutual understanding.
"I'm really sorry," Ľubomír replied. He felt the heavy burden of responsibility, but he knew there was no other way forward.
„Chcem, aby sme znova nadviazali vzťahy, pomaly, ale cieľavedome.“
"I want us to rebuild our relationships, slowly but purposefully."
Arguments continued, but they knew each word brought them closer to understanding.
It was almost like spring when, after a long sleep, renewal occurs.
In the end, they agreed to try again, not for the past, but for their future.
Pre deti, pre seba.
For the children, for themselves.
Súhlasne všetci prikývli.
They all nodded in agreement.
A sense of peace settled in the room, at least for a moment.
Slnečné lúče stále presakovali oknami, ako by tiež boli súčasťou tejto zmene prorokujúcej chvíle.
Sunbeams still streamed through the windows, as if they too were part of this change-foretelling moment.
Ľubomír pocítil nádej.
Ľubomír felt hope.
Choré vzťahy sa môžu liečiť.
Sick relationships can heal.
He strived to succeed so his next family reunion would not be as overwhelmingly exhausting.
Now he knew that the day he could once again meet his family was his own spring.
