In the spring, during the International Workers' Day, Miroslava and Jakub met in an underground bunker.
Miroslava bola inžinierka s ostražitými očami a hlbokým odhodlaním.
Miroslava was an engineer with watchful eyes and deep determination.
Jakub, na druhej strane, stratil dôveru k ľuďom.
Jakub, on the other hand, had lost trust in people.
As a historian, he was accustomed to evidence, facts, and analyses.
Bunker bol chladný, sivý, obložený kovom.
The bunker was cold, gray, clad in metal.
The air outside was full of threats and the noise that reached them added to the tension between the former friends.
Miroslava sa snažila prelomiť bariéru mlčania.
Miroslava tried to break the silence barrier.
She knew that the only way to survive was to join forces.
„Jakub,“ začala jemne, „mrzí ma, čo sa stalo medzi nami.
"Jakub," she began gently, "I'm sorry for what happened between us.
Urobila som chyby.
I made mistakes."
“ V jej hlase bola úprimnosť.
There was sincerity in her voice.
Jakub sa pozrel stranou, premýšľal.
Jakub looked away, pondering.
Ublíženie bolo stále čerstvé.
The hurt was still fresh.
Minuli roky.
Years had passed.
Bolo ťažké pozerať sa späť.
It was hard to look back.
„Neviem, či ti môžem veriť, Mira,“ povedal a jeho hlas znel smutne.
"I don't know if I can trust you, Mira," he said, and his voice sounded sad.
„Ale chcem veriť.
"But I want to believe.
Chcem mať znova priateľa.
I want to have a friend again."
“ Ticho medzi nimi bolo hlasnejšie než hluky zvonku.
The silence between them was louder than the noises outside.
Miroslava sa posunula bližšie.
Miroslava moved closer.
„Musím byť úprimná.
"I need to be honest.
Musíme byť úprimní, ak chceme z toho vyjsť.
We need to be honest if we want to get through this.
All I'm thinking about now is our survival."
“Vtom zrazu zaslú strachy vonku silno zabúchali na kovové steny bunkra.
Suddenly, the fears outside began pounding heavily on the metal walls of the bunker.
Obaja ztuhli, srdcia im divoko bili.
Both froze, their hearts beating wildly.
Bolo nutné sa rozhodnúť.
A decision had to be made.
„Mira,“ zašeptal Jakub, „verím ti.
"Mira," Jakub whispered, "I trust you.
Čo teraz?
What now?"
“ Ich oči sa stretli v tichom porozumení.
Their eyes met in silent understanding.
Miroslava rýchlo rozložila plán.
Miroslava quickly laid out a plan.
„Mám tu plán bunkra, a ty poznáš tieto miesta.
"I have the bunker plan here, and you know these places.
Nájdeme slabé miesto, a odvedieme ich inam,“ navrhla Miroslava.
We'll find a weak spot and divert them elsewhere," Miroslava suggested.
Potrebovali vzájomné dôvery a spoločné úsilie.
They needed mutual trust and joint effort.
Hoci náhlivé, každý pohyb mal svoj význam.
Though hurried, each movement had its significance.
They worked side by side as before, aligned, united by friendship and newfound trust.
V nečakanom vyhlásku slobody boli vonkajšie sily prekabátené.
In an unexpected declaration of freedom, outside forces were outwitted.
Keď sa konečne v bunkri rozhostilo ticho, Miroslava a Jakub si sadli vedľa seba.
When silence finally settled in the bunker, Miroslava and Jakub sat next to each other.
Pohľad z okna bol prvým jarným slnkom vyplnený.
The view from the window was filled with the first spring sunshine.
„Mira,“ prehodil Jakub zachrípnutým hlasom, „spravili sme to.
"Mira," Jakub said in a hoarse voice, "we did it.
And because of this, I realized it's time to let the past be the past."
“„Aj ja,“ odpovedala Miroslava s úsmevom, ktorý sa zdolával.
"So did I," responded Miroslava with a gentle smile.
„Priateľov by sme mali držať blízko pri srdci.
"We should keep friends close to the heart."
“A tak v podzemnom bunkri, medzi kovovými šumami a jarnou vôňou zvyknutou, znovuobjavili priateľstvo, ktoré stálo za nový začiatok.
And so, in the underground bunker, among metal murmurs and accustomed spring scents, they rediscovered a friendship that was worth a new beginning.
