Viktor žil v Bratislave na okraji mesta, kde jar prekvitala v plnom prúde.
Viktor lived in Bratislava, on the outskirts of the city, where spring was blossoming in full swing.
In the morning, he would leave the house, enjoy the scent of blooming cherry trees, and watch the neighbors preparing decorated Easter eggs.
Všetko bolo pokojné.
Everything was peaceful.
Až kým na svojom prahu nenašiel tajomný balík.
Until he found a mysterious package on his doorstep.
Bez mena, bez adresy, len obyčajná krabica viazaná šnúrkou.
No name, no address, just a plain box tied with string.
Viktor looked at it with growing curiosity.
Kto ju tam zanechal?
Who left it there?
Prečo?
Why?
Pomyslel si, že možno sused Ladislav vie niečo viac.
He thought that maybe his neighbor Ladislav knew something more.
Bol to nový obyvateľ ich štvrti a nikto s ním ešte poriadne nehovoril.
He was a new resident in their neighborhood, and no one had really talked to him yet.
Ladislav lived a few houses away, and although he seemed quiet, he appeared mysterious to Viktor.
He tried to discreetly find out what was happening in his neighbor's yard, but he saw nothing unusual.
Krabica však zostávala záhadou.
The box, however, remained a mystery.
Prešlo niekoľko dní, a Viktor stále nevedel nič nové.
Several days passed, and Viktor still knew nothing new.
He decided that he had to do something about it.
Na Veľkonočnom stretnutí susedov vyhľadal Ladislava.
At the Easter neighbor gathering, he sought out Ladislav.
The atmosphere was joyful, children played with colorful eggs, and there were plenty of cakes and the smell of filled sponge fingers everywhere.
Nakoniec sa Viktor odvážil postaviť sa k Ladislavovi.
Finally, Viktor gathered the courage to approach Ladislav.
"Videli ste ten balík?
"Did you see that package?
Nechal ho niekto na mojom prahu.
Someone left it on my doorstep."
"Ladislav sa usmial.
Ladislav smiled.
"Ach, áno, to je moje.
"Oh, yes, that's mine.
Myslel som, že vás poteší.
I thought it would make you happy."
"Viktor bol prekvapený.
Viktor was surprised.
"Vaše?
"Yours?
Prečo ste ho poslali mne?
Why did you send it to me?"
""Chcel som sa podeliť o tradičné veľkonočné dobroty so susedmi.
"I wanted to share traditional Easter treats with the neighbors.
Inside are Hungarian cakes, which we bake every year," explained Ladislav.
Viktor was embarrassed that he had made assumptions without evidence.
"To som nevedel.
"I didn't know that.
Ďakujem, že ste sa so mnou podelili.
Thank you for sharing with me."
"Ladislav sa usmial, prikývol a ponúkol Viktorovi ďalší koláč.
Ladislav smiled, nodded, and offered Viktor another cake.
"Rád prijímam nových priateľov.
"I enjoy welcoming new friends."
"A tak, s koláčom v ruke, Viktor pochopil, že nie všetko, čo sa zdá tajomné, má zlý úmysel.
And so, with a cake in hand, Viktor understood that not everything that seems mysterious has a bad intention.
Naučil sa byť otvorenejší a menej súdiaci, spoznal nového priateľa v Ladislavovi a pokračoval si užívať jarnú Bratislavu v plnej kráse.
He learned to be more open and less judgmental, made a new friend in Ladislav, and continued to enjoy springtime Bratislava in all its beauty.
