  • Na jar bola Bratislava plná života.

In the spring, Bratislava was full of life.

In the large courtyard of the orphanage, the children laughed and played under the blue sky.

  • Stromy začali pučať, zem pohltilo teplo.

The trees began to bud, and the ground was engulfed with warmth.

The children from the orphanage were excited because Deň práce was approaching, and with it, the big sports day.

  • Medzi deťmi bol dvanásťročný Michal.

Among the children was twelve-year-old Michal.

  • Bol premýšľavý a s dobrým srdcom.

He was thoughtful and had a good heart.

  • Jeho najväčšou túžbou bolo mať raz vlastnú rodinu.

His greatest desire was to one day have a family of his own.

However, on this day, he had another ambition – he wanted to win the competitions.

He believed that if he won, he could prove to others, and to himself, that he was worth something.

Older children from the nearby school were also preparing for this day.

  • Cvičili a pripravovali sa už týždne.

They had been practicing and preparing for weeks.

  • Michal si v duchu opakoval: "Môžem to zvládnuť.

Michal kept repeating to himself, "I can do it."

  • " Nevedel však, či tomu skutočne verí.

However, he didn't know if he truly believed it.

  • Vedel, že musí čeliť svojim obavám.

He knew he had to face his fears.

  • V súťažiach sa rozhodol spojiť s Líviou a Katarínou, ďalšími deťmi z detského domova.

For the competitions, he decided to team up with Lívia and Katarína, other children from the children's home.

They weren't athletic, but Michal felt that together they could achieve more.

  • "Dáme to spolu," povedal im odhodlane.

"We'll do it together," he told them determinedly.

  • Obe dievčatá sa usmiali a súhlasili.

    Both girls smiled and agreed.

  • Bola to príležitosť, ako vyskúšať niečo nové.

It was an opportunity to try something new.

  • Boly tam súťaže rôzneho druhu – beh, skok do diaľky, štafeta.

There were competitions of various kinds – running, long jump, relay race.

  • S každou disciplínou Michalova odhodlanosť rástla.

With each discipline, Michal's determination grew.

  • V poslednej disciplíne – štafete – boli s tímom starších detí v tesnom závese.

In the last event – the relay race – they were neck and neck with a team of older kids.

  • Lívia bežala ako vietor a odovzdala štafetu Michalovi.

Lívia ran like the wind and handed the baton to Michal.

  • Katarína ich povzbudzovala.

    Katarína cheered them on.

  • Michal dobehol do cieľa, a keď prekonal posledného súpera, pocítil víťazstvo.

Michal reached the finish line, and when he overtook the last competitor, he felt victory.

  • "Vyhrali sme!

    "We won!"

  • " skríkol radostne.

    he shouted joyfully.

  • Michalov tím prekonal očakávania.

    Michal's team exceeded expectations.

  • Siroty, vychovávatelia aj deti oslavovali.

The orphans, caregivers, and children all celebrated.

  • Tento pocit bol pre Michala nový.

This feeling was new to Michal.

  • Mal radosť a nový pocit sebadôvery.

He felt joy and a newfound sense of confidence.

  • Toto víťazstvo nebolo len o medailách.

This victory wasn't just about medals.

  • Michal pochopil silu tímovej práce a priateľstva.

Michal understood the power of teamwork and friendship.

He knew he could accomplish things he couldn't imagine before.

And although he still longed for a family, on this day he felt that he belonged somewhere.
