Moskvichi are hurrying to buy gifts.

В воздухе чувствуется запах праздника.

The scent of the holiday is in the air.

В Московской городской библиотеке тоже кипит жизнь.

At the Moskovskaya gorodskaya biblioteka, life is bustling too.

На втором этаже, среди высоких полок с книгами, сидят Николай и Дарья.

On the second floor, among the tall shelves filled with books, Nikolai and Darya are sitting.

Вокруг тихо, только шёпот перелистываемых страниц.

It's quiet around, only the whisper of turning pages.

Это их любимое место для подготовки к школе.

This is their favorite place to prepare for school.

Некоторым людям нужно много времени, чтобы привыкнуть к новой книге, но не Николай и Дарья.

Some people need a lot of time to get used to a new book, but not Nikolai and Darya.

Они уже третий час сидят над проектом.

They've been sitting over their project for the third hour now.

Завтра в школе презентация о новогодних традициях России.

Tomorrow, there's a presentation at school about Russian New Year traditions.

Николай нервничает.

Nikolai is nervous.

Он всегда немного переживает, когда нужно говорить на публике.

He always gets a bit anxious when he has to speak in public.

Николай хочет рассказать про куранты, про дедушку Мороза и волшебную силу зимней ночи.

Nikolai wants to talk about the chimes, about Dedushka Moroz and the magical power of a winter night.

Но в сердце сомнения.

But there are doubts in his heart.

Вдруг всё забудет, вдруг не получится?

What if he forgets everything, what if it doesn't work out?

Дарья, энергичная и уверенная, всегда знает, как поддержать друга.

Darya, energetic and confident, always knows how to support her friend.

Она предлагает практиковаться.

She suggests practicing.

"Давай, расскажи мне всё сначала," — говорит она.

"Come on, tell me everything from the start," she says.

Николай начинает, сначала тихо, но потом перерастает в уверенную речь.

Nikolai begins, at first quietly, but then it grows into a confident speech.

Когда оказывается, что этого недостаточно, Дарья предлагает добавить что-то личное, чтобы заинтересовать одноклассников.

When it turns out that's not enough, Darya suggests adding something personal to captivate their classmates.

"Вспомни, как ты с бабушкой украшал ёлку," — подсказывает она.

"Remember how you decorated the tree with your grandmother," she prompts.

Время близится к вечеру.

Time is drawing towards evening.

Снег всё падает за окнами.

Snow continues to fall outside the windows.

Библиотека закрывается, но у ребят появился план.

The library is closing, but the kids have a plan.

На следующий день в классе все улыбаются.

The next day, everyone in the class is smiling.

Ёлка блестит огнями.

The Christmas tree sparkles with lights.

Наступает момент выступления.

The moment for the presentation comes.

Николай немного нервничает.

Nikolai is a little nervous.

Дышит глубоко.

He takes a deep breath.

Начинает рассказ о празднике.

He starts telling the story of the holiday.

Сегодня все готово — картинки, музыка.

Everything is ready today — pictures, music.

Но вдруг — техника подводит.

But suddenly, the technology fails.

Компьютер зависает.

The computer freezes.

Николай замирает, но Дарья тут же рядом.

Nikolai stands still, but Darya is right next to him.

Она улыбается и напоминает про историю с бабушкой.

She smiles and reminds him about the story with his grandmother.

Николай вздыхает.

Nikolai sighs.

Начинает импровизировать.

He starts to improvise.

He speaks from the heart, recounts how he celebrated New Year in childhood, how gifts were hidden under the tree, how they waited for the chimes to make a wish.

The room goes quiet.

Все слушают внимательно.

Everyone listens attentively.

Теперь его не остановить.

Now he can't be stopped.

Он заканчивает, и весь класс аплодирует.

He concludes, and the whole class applauds.

В конце дня, стоя за окном и смотря на падающий снег, Николай чувствует гордость.

At the end of the day, standing by the window and watching the falling snow, Nikolai feels proud.

Ему удалось.

He succeeded.

Он справился со страхом.

He overcame his fear.

А помогло ему дружеское плечо и совместная работа.

And it was the support of a friend and teamwork that helped him.

С этого дня Николай увереннее.

From this day on, Nikolai is more confident.

Он знает: нужно просто немного веры в себя и поддержку друга, и тогда можно все.
