Catalina savura aroma cafelei proaspăt prăjite, aşezată la masa unei cafenele aglomerate din Bucureşti.
Catalina savored the aroma of freshly roasted coffee, sitting at the table of a crowded café in Bucureşti.
It was autumn, and the leaves were gently falling on the cobblestone streets.
Catalina loved the atmosphere here, especially now, as the celebration of Sfinții Mihail și toți Îngerii was approaching.
The flowers on the tablecloths and the vintage Romanian posters added a special charm to the place.
Mihai sosise imediat după ea, zâmbind relaxat.
Mihai arrived shortly after her, smiling relaxedly.
He was passionate about Romanian culture, which made him even more captivating in Catalina's eyes.
She wanted to impress him and, since she did not know much about culinary traditions, she thought of talking to him about Romanian pastries.
She believed this would attract him even more.
Andrei, the waiter, was heading toward their table with a menu in hand.
He had a mischievous smile on his face, as if he sensed what was about to happen.
Catalina browsed the menu attentively and, with a confident air, began to list:
— I heard that the papanași are delicious here, but I believe they are of Hungarian origin, right?
And that... the baclava is famous for its Romanian taste, she added, trying to show her knowledge about local sweets.
Mihai listened attentively, trying to suppress a smile.
Andrei couldn't help himself and intervened amused:
— The baclava is actually an Oriental dessert, and the papanași, well, they are as Romanian as can be, he said with a playful tone.
Catalina blushed slightly, but she didn't want to give up.
Continuă să comande și mai apăsat:
She continued to order more assertively:
— Atunci să comandăm ceva special, Amedeo's Surprise.
— Then let's order something special, Amedeo's Surprise.
Mihai and Andrei exchanged knowing looks, waiting to see how the situation would unfold.
A little later, Andrei brought the dessert with dramatic flair.
Under a glass dome was a strangely colorful pastry that resembled more a piece of avant-garde art than a traditional dessert.
Catalina was taken aback, and Mihai burst into laughter.
Acesta era sensibil momentul culminant, însă, spre surprinderea ei, râsetele nu erau ironice.
This was the pivotal moment, but to her surprise, the laughter was not mocking.
Eram dintr-o joacă, o anecdotă amuzantă a unei întâlniri neașteptate.
It was playful, an amusing anecdote of an unexpected encounter.
— It doesn't matter how many pastries you know; in the end, you're here with me, and that's what counts, Mihai said, smiling warmly at her.
Catalina laughed too, relieved and grateful for Mihai's kindness.
At that moment, she realized that it was not important to know all the details, but to live authentically, enjoying his company.
Their closeness grew stronger, and Catalina now understood that perfection was not the key to success.
Sometimes, a little mix-up can build a bridge to something much more valuable.
The conclusion of their meeting? A pleasure, a friendship, and a lesson about the beauty of simply being present.
