O céu começou a escurecer rapidamente.
The sky started to darken rapidly.
Nuvens espessas cobriam Lisboa.
Thick clouds covered Lisboa.
Mateus estava na Torre de Belém.
Mateus was at the Torre de Belém.
It was Saturday, and he had just finished another guided tour.
Agora, ele estava sozinho.
Now, he was alone.
He looked at the rio Tejo, which began to stir with the wind.
A chuva chegou de repente, forte e pesada.
The rain arrived suddenly, strong and heavy.
The tower, rising majestically, seemed like a safe refuge.
Mateus correu para dentro, procurando abrigo.
Mateus ran inside, seeking shelter.
He did not expect to find anyone there, but he heard hurried footsteps behind him.
Inês entrou ofegante, molhada pela chuva.
Inês entered, panting, soaked by the rain.
"Olá," disse, tentando sorrir apesar da situação.
"Hello," she said, trying to smile despite the situation.
"Olá," respondeu Mateus.
"Hello," replied Mateus.
"Está tudo bem?
"Is everything okay?"
""Sim.
"Yes...
I was just walking, and the storm caught me by surprise."
They found shelter in a small room, protected from the raindrops.
Lá fora, o vento uivava, e relâmpagos iluminavam o céu.
Outside, the wind howled, and lightning lit up the sky.
"Tens vindo muitas vezes a Lisboa?
"Have you come to Lisboa often?"
" perguntou Mateus, quebrando o silêncio.
Mateus asked, breaking the silence.
"Não, estou aqui a procurar inspiração," disse Inês.
"No, I'm here looking for inspiration," said Inês.
"Sou arquiteta.
"I'm an architect."
""Interessante," Mateus murmurou.
"Interesting," Mateus murmured.
"Eu sou historiador.
"I'm a historian."
"Inês fitou-o, curiosa.
Inês looked at him, curious.
"Historiador?
"Historian?
And you want to leave this city full of history?"
"Mateus hesitou.
Mateus hesitated.
It was surprising how she had guessed his secret thoughts.
"Sim," confessou.
"Yes," he confessed.
"Sinto-me preso aqui.
"I feel trapped here.
I want to live new stories, but it seems something always pulls me back."
"Inês assentiu.
Inês nodded.
"Compreendo.
"I understand.
I also have doubts about my path.
I came here looking for a sign, something to tell me I'm doing the right thing."
"Ambos olharam pela janela estreita.
They both looked out the narrow window.
A lightning bolt illuminated the river, followed by a deafening roar.
Instintivamente, recuaram para o fundo da sala.
Instinctively, they retreated to the back of the room.
"Desculpa," disse Mateus.
"Sorry," said Mateus.
"Não sei porque te contei tudo isso.
"I don't know why I told you all this."
""Tudo bem," respondeu Inês com gentileza.
"It's okay," replied Inês kindly.
"Sometimes, we need to talk to organize our thoughts."
"E assim, presos dentro da antiga estrutura, partilharam histórias e medos.
And so, trapped inside the ancient structure, they shared stories and fears.
Mateus spoke about wanting to explore the world, discover other cultures, but with an unwavering love for the history of Lisboa.
Inês spoke about her passion for architecture and the desire to create something enduring, something that respects the past and looks to the future.
Aos poucos, a tempestade começou a acalmar.
Gradually, the storm began to calm.
A chuva diminuiu, e o vento desacelerou.
The rain lessened, and the wind slowed down.
The sky, once threatening, started to open up, revealing small patches of blue.
"You know," said Mateus, "maybe I don't need to choose between staying or leaving.
Lisboa tem ainda tantas histórias por contar.
Lisboa still has so many stories to tell."
"And in the same way, I can use architecture to preserve these stories, not just create new ones."
They left the tower as the sun began to appear timidly.
They walked together for a while, but they knew it was time to go their separate ways.
"Good luck, Inês," said Mateus before they turned away.
"Para ti também, Mateus," respondeu ela.
"You too, Mateus," she replied.
As Lisboa shone once more under the sun, each of them felt lighter.
The future seemed less daunting now, wrapped in the eternal promise of new stories to tell and buildings to erect.
