Lars took a deep breath and looked towards the large supermarket entrance.
It was winter, and the snow lay like a soft blanket over the city.
Han kjente den kalde luften mot ansiktet.
He felt the cold air against his face.
It was one of the many days when he had to take Ingrid and Sofia with him shopping.
He hoped they could avoid arguments, but also knew that it was easier said than done.
Inne i butikken var det travelt.
Inside the store, it was busy.
Folk hastet rundt med handlevognene sine.
People hurried around with their shopping carts.
Fargerike frukt og grønnsaker lyste opp i grønnsaksseksjonen mens duften av nybakt brød fylte luften.
Colorful fruits and vegetables lit up the produce section while the scent of freshly baked bread filled the air.
Lars prøvde å smile til døtrene sine.
Lars tried to smile at his daughters.
"We need to get through this without drama," he said, more to himself than to the girls.
"Ingrid," said Lars cautiously, handing her a paper bag.
"Kan du velge noen frukter?
"Can you choose some fruits?
I'll take Sofia to the canned goods section to find beans."
He knew that Ingrid liked fruit, and perhaps it would keep her distracted for a while.
Ingrid nikket, men himlet litt med øynene.
Ingrid nodded but rolled her eyes a little.
As Lars and Sofia made their way through the aisles, Sofia immediately began to touch everything she could reach.
She reached out for a can of tomato soup and stared curiously at the label.
Lars smiled to himself, thinking about how curious she always was.
But when they reached the cereal aisle, Lars heard the voices of Ingrid and Sofia rising.
They had both picked different cereals and were disagreeing.
The discussion quickly turned into a loud argument, and people began to stare.
Lars felt a wave of despair, but then he got an idea.
"Hei!
"Hey!"
" ropte han med et glimt i øyet.
he shouted with a glint in his eye.
"La oss finne den morsomste frokostblandingen.
"Let's find the funniest cereal box.
Den med det rareste bildet vinner.
The one with the weirdest picture wins."
"Jentene stoppet opp, litt forvirret.
The girls stopped, a bit confused.
De nølte, men begynte deretter å lete blant hyllene.
They hesitated, but then started to search among the shelves.
Soon they were both laughing over a box with a silly drawing of a dancing monkey.
Lars pustet lettet ut.
Lars breathed a sigh of relief.
The little competition had turned the situation around, and now all three were laughing.
They continued exploring the store as a team, more in sync than before.
As they left the store, it began to snow again.
Large, soft snowflakes drifted down, and the girls ran out to catch them with their tongues.
Lars smiled and thought that although challenges in a dysfunctional family arise, a simple idea and some humor can be enough to calm the storm.
Ingrid and Sofia looked at him with a shared, bright laughter, and Lars felt warmth in his heart despite the winter cold.
