On a spring morning, as the sun's rays gently illuminated the streets of Rīga, Kārlis hopped on his bicycle and quickly pedaled his way to the Latvijas Zinātnes muzeju (Latvian Science Museum).
Šodien bija viņa lielā diena – skolas projekta prezentācija.
Today was his big day – the school project presentation.
Sirds pukstēja straujāk nekā parasti, un viņš centās pārliecināt sevi, ka viss būs kārtībā.
His heart was pounding faster than usual, and he tried to convince himself that everything would be alright.
Kopš bērnības Kārlis aizrautīgi interesējās par astronomiju.
Since childhood, Kārlis had been passionately interested in astronomy.
The stars seemed to him like mysterious friends, and he felt the need to share his knowledge with others.
Šodien viņš cerēja pārsteigt klasi ar savu darbību, īpaši Annu, kura vienmēr bija sēdējusi priekšpēdējā solā, kur Kārlis vienmēr cerēja, ka viņa skatās viņa virzienā.
Today, he hoped to impress the class with his work, especially Anna, who always sat in the penultimate row, where Kārlis always hoped she was looking his way.
Muzejs dūca no skolēnu balsīm, kas sajūsmināti pētīja interaktīvos eksponātus.
The museum buzzed with the voices of students who eagerly explored the interactive exhibits.
Milzīgi planētu modeļi karājās no griestiem, izgaismojot zāli ar saules sistēmas krāšņumu.
Huge models of planets hung from the ceiling, illuminating the room with the splendor of the solar system.
Tas bija ideāls fons Kārlim, kurš plānoja izcelties, neraugoties uz to, ko nesīs Māris ar savu pierasto pārliecību.
It was the perfect backdrop for Kārlis, who planned to stand out despite whatever Māris might bring with his usual confidence.
Kārlis stāvēja pie sava prezentāciju galda ar rūpīgi veidotu Saules sistēmas modeli.
Kārlis stood by his presentation table with a carefully crafted model of the Solar System.
"Tas būs jāpaveic," viņš sev atkārtoja, kad pateica pirmos vārdus par Saules grāvi un tā lomu Visumā.
"This has to be done," he repeated to himself as he began his speech about the solar wind and its role in the universe.
But just as he turned to explain the orbit of Mars, the model cracked and collapsed.
The room fell silent, and Kārlis felt his heart drop.
Viņa lūpas trīcēja, bet viņš dziļi ievilka elpu.
His lips trembled, but he took a deep breath.
"Nekas," viņš teica pats sevī.
"It's nothing," he told himself.
His voice grew stronger, and he continued to speak about the planets, leaving the audience impressed with his knowledge and passion.
Klase kliedza aplausos, kad Kārlis beigās nolieca galvu.
The class erupted in applause as Kārlis bowed at the end.
A sad smile spread across his face, but then Anna approached him and whispered, "You were really great, Kārlīt.
Es nezināju tādas lietas par zvaigznēm.
I didn't know such things about the stars."
" Viņas vārdi darīja to, ko neviena slavas runa nevarētu – viņš ticēja sev.
Her words accomplished what no amount of praise could – he believed in himself.
Kad viņš izgāja no muzeja, pavasara vējš plūda caur lapām, un Kārlis zināja, ka viņam vairs nevajadzēja baidīties no savām bailēm.
As he left the museum, the spring breeze rustled through the leaves, and Kārlis knew that he no longer needed to fear his fears.
Tikpat kā zvaigznes, viņš tikai tagad saprata: īstā gaisma bija viņā pašā.
Just like the stars, he realized now: the true light was within him.
