  • Krasni mirkļi senajās Rīgas ielās

Beautiful Moments on the Old Streets of Rīga

  • Tas bija auksts februāra rīts.

It was a cold February morning.

  • Zeme bija klāta ar svaigi uzkritis sniegu.

The ground was covered with freshly fallen snow.

  • Vecpilsētas šaurās ielas izskatījās pasakaini.

The narrow streets of the old town looked magical.

  • Jānis un Ieva gāja pa ielu uz skolu.

Jānis and Ieva were walking down the street to school.

  • Abi vilkušies vilnas šallēs.

    Both wrapped in wool scarves.

  • Mazu mirdzošu veikalu logi spīdēja kā Ziemassvētku lampiņas.

The small sparkling shop windows shone like Christmas lights.

  • Diena bija īpaša – Valentīndiena, un arī eksāmena diena.

The day was special—Valentine's Day, and also exam day.

  • Jānis juta sirdi uztriecamies.

    Jānis felt his heart racing.

  • Viņa bija talantīgs skolnieks, bet liela zinātnieka sirsniņa pie Jāņa bija Ieva.

He was a talented student, but the heart of a great scholar belonged to Jānis for Ieva.

  • Viņš gribēja viņai pateikt, ko jūt, bet bija bailīgs.

He wanted to tell her how he felt, but he was timid.

  • "Gatavojies eksāmenam?" Ieva jautāja, kad abi gāja pa ielu.

"Are you ready for the exam?" Ieva asked as they walked down the street.

  • Viņas balss bija silta un uzmundrinoša.

Her voice was warm and encouraging.

  • Jānis smaidīja, lai gan prāts skrēja citur.

Jānis smiled, even though his mind was elsewhere.

  • "Jā, es domāju, ka būs labi," viņš saņēmis.

"Yes, I think it will be fine," he managed.

  • Viņi kopā bija pavadījuši daudz laika, mācoties un sarunājoties.

They had spent a lot of time together, studying and talking.

  • Ieva bija draudzīga un atvērta.

    Ieva was friendly and open.

  • Jānis juta, ka šodien ir īstā diena.

Jānis felt that today was the right day.

  • "Saki, Ieva," Jānis teica, apstādinot viņu starp skaistajām, vecmodīgajām mājām.

"Say, Ieva," Jānis said, stopping her between the beautiful, old-fashioned houses.

  • "Es gribu tev kaut ko pateikt."

"I want to tell you something."

  • Ieva apstājās un skatījās viņam acīs.

Ieva stopped and looked him in the eyes.

  • Viņas smaids lika Jāņa vaigiem pulsēt.

Her smile made Jānis' cheeks tingle.

  • "Es jau kādu laiku jūtos... es jūtos..." viņš vilcinājās.

"I have been feeling for some time... I feel..." he hesitated.

  • "Es tevi ļoti cienu un gribu, lai tu zini, ka man esi īpaša."

"I respect you a lot and want you to know that you are special to me."

  • Ieva smaidīja vēl plašāk.

    Ieva smiled even wider.

  • "Jāni, man tas ir ļoti svarīgi.

"Jānis, that means a lot to me.

  • Arī tu man esi īpašs," viņa sacīja sirsnīgi.

You are special to me too," she said sincerely.

  • Jāņa sirds piepildījās ar prieku.

    Jānis' heart filled with joy.

  • Viņa drosme netika veltīga.

    His courage was not wasted.

  • Ieva turpināja: "Ejot eksāmenā, mēs to darīsim kopā.

Ieva continued, "As we go to the exam, we'll do it together.

  • Tas viss būs labi."

    Everything will be fine."

  • Kopā viņi devās tālāk, klusām čalojoši un smejoties.

Together they went on, quietly chatting and laughing.

  • Skolā Jānis beidzot sajuta mieru.

At school, Jānis finally felt at peace.

  • Viņam blakus stāvēja Ieva, un tas deva viņam spēku.

Standing next to him was Ieva, and that gave him strength.

  • Viņi abi bija labi sagatavojušies, un pat nejutīgais ziemas vējš nespēja izkliedēt šo siltumu viņa sirdī.

They were both well-prepared, and not even the numbing winter wind could dispel the warmth in his heart.

  • Kad eksāmens bija beidzies, Jānis juta, ka noslēdzās ne tikai sekolahaa prov, bet arī viņa iekšējais cīniņš.

When the exam was over, Jānis felt that not only the school event had concluded, but also his internal struggle.

  • Tagad viņš zināja - emocijas ir jāizsaka, un tas bija pirmais solis jaunas dzīves sākšanai.

Now he knew—emotions must be expressed, and it was the first step in starting a new life.

  • Viņi atstāja skolu kopā, jaundibinātās attiecības dodot jaunu cerību.

They left the school together, with newly established relationships bringing new hope.

  • Vecpilsētas ielas, klātas ar sniegu un iemirdzas klusumā, bija liecinieces divu jaunu dvēseļu savienošanai.

The old town streets, covered with snow and glistening in silence, were witnesses to the bonding of two young souls.
