Zem spožās saules stariem, kas caur logiem apspīdēja Rīgas Starptautisko lidostu, Jānis steidzās uz savu izejas vārtiņu.
Under the bright rays of the sun that shone through the windows of Rīgas Starptautisko lidostu, Jānis hurried to his departure gate.
Lidosta bija dzīvīga.
The airport was lively.
People were running with suitcases, and announcements echoed from all sides.
Jānis bija nedaudz nervozs ceļotājs, kurš mēģināja būt punktuāls un neko neatstāt nejaušībai.
Jānis was a slightly nervous traveler trying to be punctual and leave nothing to chance.
Viņam patika vērot putnus, bet tikai drošā attālumā.
He liked watching birds, but only from a safe distance.
Pēkšņi, it kā no zila gaisa, uz Jāņa pleca nosēdās papagailis.
Suddenly, as if out of the blue, a parrot landed on Jānis' shoulder.
He was surprised and seemed frozen in place.
The parrot, evidently excited about its new friend, the hesitant Jānis, greeted him with a loud squawk.
Jānis gandrīz nometās pie zemes, bet savācās.
Jānis almost crouched to the ground but collected himself.
Viņa sirds sāka dauzīties vēl straujāk.
His heart began to beat even faster.
"Vajag tikt vaļā no šī papagaiļa," viņš sev domāja.
"I need to get rid of this parrot," he thought to himself.
Viņš piepeši iedomājās iet uz tuvāko duty-free veikalu.
He suddenly thought of going to the nearest duty-free shop.
Varbūt kāds gardums novērstu papagaiļa uzmanību.
Perhaps some snack could divert the parrot's attention.
Viņš steigā iegādājās dažus riekstus cerībā, ka tas palīdzēs.
In haste, he bought some nuts in hopes that it would help.
Kad Jānis izgāja no veikala, viņš atklāja, ka pa lidostu sāka ņirbat veseli putnu bariņi.
When Jānis came out of the store, he discovered that flocks of birds had started fluttering around the airport.
Viņam pievienojās arī citi, mazāk papagaiļi, kuri sekoja riekstu smaržai.
He was joined by other, smaller parrots following the scent of the nuts.
Tagad viņš bija nevis draudzīgs putnu vērotājs, bet putnu magnēts!
Now he was not a friendly birdwatcher but a bird magnet!
Lidostas darbiniece Emīlija nāca viņam palīgā.
An airport employee, Emīlija, came to his aid.
Viņa bija mierīga un nosvērta.
She was calm and composed.
With bird feed, which she always carried with her, Emīlija carefully lured the parrot and the other birds towards her.
"Nav jāuztraucas, man tas ir ikdienas darbs," viņa teica ar smaidu.
"No need to worry, it's a part of my daily work," she said with a smile.
Tagad Jānis varēja doties uz savu vārtiņu.
Now Jānis could head to his gate.
He ran, grateful and a bit carefree about overcoming such an obstacle.
Jānis paguva lidmašīnā tieši īstajā laikā.
Jānis managed to board the plane just in time.
Lidmašīnai paceloties, Jānis sēdēja sēdeklī un pasmējās.
As the plane took off, Jānis sat in his seat and laughed.
He had new stories to tell his family and friends—a story about the parrot and the delightful Emīlija, who together eased his day.
He realized that sometimes, not everything needs to be taken so seriously and that in life, it's also good to relax a little.
