Valošo gaismu piepildīta, Vecrīga izstaroja ziemas brīvdienu prieku.
Bathed in illuminating light, Vecrīga radiated the joy of the winter holidays.
The streets were narrow and filled with people who were enjoying the magic of the Christmas market.
Right next to Doma square, amidst the smells from gingerbread stalls and the aroma of mulled wine, walked Emils and Darta.
Emilam, praktiskam un mazliet skeptiskam vietējam, šis laiks gada sākumā nozīmēja tikai pūlēs.
To Emils, a practical and somewhat skeptical local, this time of the year only meant crowds.
Viņš bija pieradis izvairīties no cilvēku masām.
He was used to avoiding masses of people.
Taču Darta,—kā no cita pasaules mala nākusi, viņai viss šķita jauns un aizraujošs.
However, Darta,—as if she came from another corner of the world, everything seemed new and exciting to her.
Her eyes sparkled as she watched the wooden huts with handmade souvenirs and the singers' voices filling the air with traditional songs.
"Emil, skaties!
"Emil, look!
Tur ir stends ar svecēm!
There's a stall with candles!
Tas smaržo pēc ķimeņu maizes!
It smells like caraway bread!"
" Darta norādīja uz koka stendu, knapi saturēdama savu sajūsmu.
Darta pointed to a wooden stall, barely containing her excitement.
Emils nopūtās.
Emils sighed.
"Darta, šeit ir pārāk daudz cilvēku.
"Darta, there are too many people here.
Varbūt doties uz klusāku vietu?
Maybe we should go somewhere quieter?"
"Bet Darta paraudzījās uz viņu, lūdzīgi acīm dīvojot.
But Darta looked at him, her eyes pleading.
"Lūdzu, es vēlos izjust visu burvību.
"Please, I want to experience all the magic."
"Emils saprata, ka pārāk ilgi savus brīvdienu piedzīvojumus bija balstījis uz komfortu.
Emils realized that for too long, his holiday adventures had been based on comfort.
Tādēļ, kaut piesardzīgi, viņš piekrita vadīt Dartā cauri pūlim.
So, albeit cautiously, he agreed to lead Darta through the crowd.
Viņi soļoja tālāk, līdz nonāca līdz mazākam laukumam, kur apliecībā uz nelielu eglīti Darta atrada mazu stendu ar rokdarbu rotājumiem.
They walked further until they reached a smaller square, where beside a small Christmas tree, Darta found a tiny stall with handcrafted decorations.
Tajā brīdī viņa atklāja rūpīgi darinātu ornamentu - no koka izveidotu sniegavīru ar sarkanu šallīti.
At that moment, she discovered a carefully crafted ornament—a wooden snowman with a red scarf.
Darta staroja priekā.
Darta beamed with joy.
"Vai tas nav brīnišķīgi, Emils?
"Isn't it wonderful, Emils?
Tik vienkāršs un skaists.
So simple and beautiful."
"Emils tobrīd pamanīja ko svarīgu.
Emils noticed something important at that moment.
It was not just about the market or the crowd.
Tas bija par to prieku, ko Darta guva.
It was about the joy that Darta felt.
Laimes dzirksti savā draudzene, Emils sajuta pirmo reizi - kāpēc pūles un burzma varētu būt vērtas.
For the first time, he sensed why the effort and bustle could be worth it.
"Jā, tas tiešām ir," Emils atbildēja, justams siltuma vilnis sirdī.
"Yes, it really is," Emils replied, feeling a wave of warmth in his heart.
Viņš turēja roku Dreša, lūkojoties uz pārējiem apkārt.
He held Darta's hand, looking around at the others.
Viņš no jauna saprata - ir labi būt daļai no šī visa.
He realized anew—it's good to be part of all this.
And so, they continued through the streets of Vecrīga, enjoying not just the quiet spots but also the merry hustle of the festivities.
Emils learned to accept the balance between his own wishes and the value of shared moments of joy, making the picture a bit brighter.
