Sniegi klusi krita uz takām, apsmidzinot ceļu uz ziemas nometni, kur pulcējās jauni prāti no visas Latvijas.
The snow quietly fell on the paths, sprinkling the way to the winter camp where young minds from all over Latvija gathered.
Raimonds, Elizabete, and Jānis had come here to prepare for the national debate competition, which was only a few weeks away.
Māja, kurā viņi palika, bija maza, mājīga, ar lielu stikla logu, caur kuru varēja vērot apkārtējo mežu.
The house they stayed in was small and cozy, with a large glass window through which the surrounding forest could be watched.
Raimonds vienmēr sajutās nervozs, kad vajadzēja runāt publiski.
Raimonds always felt nervous when he had to speak publicly.
Viņam bija zināšanas, talants, bet trūka pārliecības.
He had knowledge and talent, but lacked confidence.
Elizabete, viņu mentore, bija iedvesmojoša un vienmēr deva labus padomus.
Elizabete, their mentor, was inspiring and always gave good advice.
"Atceries, Raimond, ka īstās debates notiek galvā," viņa teica, smejoties.
"Remember, Raimond, the real debates happen in your head," she said, laughing.
"Ārā vajag tikai paust savas domas pārliecināti.
"Outside, you just need to express your thoughts confidently."
"Šķita, ka nometnē viss strādāja pret Raimondu.
It seemed that everything at the camp worked against Raimonds.
Spiediens no komandas lika viņam šaubīties par sevi vēl vairāk.
The pressure from the team made him doubt himself even more.
Every evening, he would go to his room, thinking about his next steps.
Taču vienu vakaru, nometnē notika kaut kas necerēts.
But one evening, something unexpected happened at the camp.
Jānis, viens no komandas biedriem, pieredzējis un mierīgs, pievienojās Raimondam pie novas ugunskura.
Jānis, one of the team members, experienced and calm, joined Raimonds by the new campfire.
"Raimond, es saprotu, kā tu jūties," Jānis sāka.
"Raimond, I understand how you feel," Jānis began.
"Arī es baidījos, bet šeit nometnē ir mūsu iespēja mācīties.
"I was afraid too, but here at the camp is our opportunity to learn.
Mēs esam kopā šajā cīņā.
We are in this fight together."
"Jāņa vārdi sasildīja Raimonda sirdi tā, kā uguns nesasil tās rokas.
Jānis' words warmed Raimonds' heart as the fire doesn't warm the hands.
Nākamajā dienā viņi kopā ar Elizabeti sāka intensīvāk strādāt pie Raimonda iemaņu uzlabošanas.
The next day, they, along with Elizabete, began working more intensively on improving Raimonds' skills.
Viņi iekārtoja spečzāli tikai priekš Raimonda, kur viņš varēja praktizēt savas runas prasmju gludināšanu.
They set up a special room just for Raimonds, where he could practice honing his speech skills.
Tuvojās pēdējā diena, kad nometnē bija jānotiek mēģinājuma debatēm.
The last day approached, when trial debates were to take place at the camp.
Raimonds wanted to try again, but when it was his turn to speak, everything stopped.
Viņš iesaldēja.
He froze.
Klusumā atbalsojās Elizabetes balss.
In the silence echoed Elizabete's voice.
"Mēs ticam tev, Raimond.
"We believe in you, Raimond.
Runā par to, kas tevi uztrauc!
Speak about what worries you!"
" Un Jāņa piebilde: "Tu vari to izdarīt.
And Jānis added: "You can do it."
"Ar šo iedrošinājumu, Raimonds atrada spēku sevī.
With this encouragement, Raimonds found strength within himself.
Viņš sāka runāt.
He began to speak.
Vārdi plūda, un viņa aizrautība pārklāja visas šaubas.
The words flowed, and his enthusiasm covered all doubts.
Atlikušie klausītāji bija apstulbusi viņa pārliecībā.
The remaining listeners were stunned by his confidence.
When the camp ended, the ceilings were decorated with festive garlands, and hearts were filled with the strength drawn from shared successes and friendship.
Raimonds returned home with the taste of victory, but more importantly, with newfound confidence in himself and what he could achieve.
Viņš zināja, ka reizēm vajadzīgs tikai atbalsta vārds, lai apgūtu drosmi un šķērsotu nezināmo.
He knew that sometimes all it takes is a word of support to gain the courage to cross into the unknown.
