In the evening at Ueno Park, the flickering lanterns cast a fantastical light all around.
Even though it's midsummer, the breeze is slightly pleasant.
On a day when the festival's clamor can be heard from afar, Takumi stood frozen in place.
He had wandered into the park in search of artistic inspiration.
However, deep inside, anxiety and impatience plagued him.
Meanwhile, Emiko was also in the park.
She wanted to experience the traditional culture of Japan so much that she skipped her university classes.
She wished to momentarily forget about the pressure from her studies.
At the festival site, a line of delicious-looking food stalls awaited.
Amid the scent of grilled corn and takoyaki, Takumi and Emiko coincidentally met in front of the same stall.
"Do you think this yakisoba is good?" Takumi anxiously asked the stall owner.
Seeing him like this, Emiko smiled.
"I'm sure it's delicious. Take the plunge and try it," she encouraged.
For some reason, Takumi's hesitant expression struck a chord with her.
The two sat together on a bench near the stall and began talking while eating yakisoba.
Takumi shared a bit about his dreams and worries, and Emiko opened up about her own feelings.
Each small commonality they discovered brought their hearts closer.
Before long, the festival's bon odori began.
The sound of the drum resonated pleasantly.
"Do you want to dance?" Emiko suggested.
"I'm a bit clumsy…" Takumi hesitated.
Still, he mustered the courage to join the dance circle.
Initially, he felt awkward, but his expression gradually softened.
Naturally, smiles spread across their faces, and they exchanged glances.
The dance circle enveloped them, and in that moment, they felt a connection of hearts.
As the festival came to an end, Takumi said to Emiko, "Thanks to you, I feel like I can try again."
Emiko genuinely replied, "Thank you, too."
They exchanged contact information and promised to meet again.
That night, Takumi returned home content and picked up his brush.
While sketching each moment of the festival, he gained newfound confidence.
Emiko returned to her room, opened an old album, and felt connected to her roots.
The festival at Ueno Park had concluded, but the new journey for the two of them had just begun.
