冬の冷たい空気が、嵐山の竹林を優しく包んでいた。

The cold winter air gently enveloped the Arashiyama bamboo grove.

竹がサワサワと揺れる音が、空気をより一層静かに感じさせる。

The sound of the bamboo swaying softly made the air feel even quieter.

そして、今日は節分の特別な日。

Today was a special day of Setsubun.

観光客も地元の人たちも、豆まきの準備で賑わっていた。

Both tourists and locals were bustling with preparations for the bean-throwing event.

ハルト、中年の会計士は、静かに歩いていた。

Haruto, a middle-aged accountant, was walking quietly.

彼の隣には、幼なじみのアイコと地元ガイドのミツオがいた。

彼女の笑顔は、昔からハルトの心を和ませる力を持っていた。

Her smile had always had the power to soothe Haruto's heart since they were young.

「うん、たしかに...」とハルトは答えた。

"Yeah, it certainly has..." Haruto replied.

しかし、そのとき突然、ハルトは胸に鋭い痛みを感じた。

However, at that moment, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest.

顔をしかめ、足を止めた。

He grimaced and stopped walking.

ミツオがすぐに気付いて、「大丈夫か？」と心配そうに声を掛けた。

Mitsuo immediately noticed and asked worriedly, "Are you okay?"

「大丈夫だ」とハルトは応えたが、本当は少し不安だった。

"I'm fine," Haruto responded, but in truth, he was a little anxious.

今、もしここで歩くのをやめたら、アイコに思いを伝える機会を永遠に失ってしまうかもしれない。

やがて、節分の豆まきの時間がやってきた。

子どもたちが「鬼は外！福は内！」と声を合わせて叫びながら、豆をまいていた。

Children were shouting in unison, "Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!" as they threw beans.

その様子を見ていると、少しずつハルトの心は落ち着いてきた。

しかし、豆まきが最高潮に達したとき、ハルトの胸の痛みが再び襲った。

驚いたアイコとミツオは、すぐに彼を支えた。
