その中に、小さなコージーなカフェがあった。

「ふくろうカフェ」と名付けられたこの場所は、地元の人々に親しまれている。

窓辺からは、白く覆われた屋根を一望でき、暖かいオレンジ色の光がやさしく漏れていた。

このカフェに集まったのは、旧友の三人だった。

あかりは、都会のジャーナリスト。家族のために短期間帰省しているが、忙しい仕事に戻らねばならないことに不安を抱えていた。

Akari is an urban journalist, back home temporarily for her family, though she felt anxious about having to return to her busy job.

「優紀、久しぶり！」はるとは笑顔で言った。

"Yuki, it's been a while!" said Haruto with a smile.

だが、そこにはまだぎこちなさが残っていた。

However, there was still some awkwardness remaining.

「元気だった？」

"How have you been?"

「ええ、まあね。

"Well, I guess.

でも、はるとこそ、よく海外から帰ってきたね」と優紀が答えた。

But Haruto, it's impressive you managed to come back from overseas," replied Yuki.

会話は途切れがちだった。

The conversation was often interrupted.

三人の間には、まだ未解決の問題が横たわっていた。

「すごい、こんなに降ってるとは思わなかった。」あかりは窓を指差した。

"But not anymore. I'm happy we can all meet again like this."

はるとも流れを受けて言った。「俺たち、もっと素直になろうよ。

雪の中、三人は心からの笑い声を響かせた。
