廊下から聞こえるカチャカチャというキーボードの音。

雪の降る高山市のスタートアップインキュベーターは活気に満ちていた。

The startup incubator in snow-covered Takayama-shi was bustling with energy.

ちょっとした手違いや雑談が聞こえる中で、はるとは真剣な表情でモニタを見つめている。

Amidst the minor mix-ups and chatting, Haruto was staring intently at the monitor.

彼の目標は壮大だった。猫の鳴き声を人間の言葉に翻訳するアプリを作ることだ。

His goal was ambitious: to create an app that translates cat meows into human language.

「ユキ、このコード、どう思う？」はるとは画面を指さしながら言った。

"Yuki, what do you think of this code?" Haruto said, pointing at the screen.

ユキはデザイナーであり、現実的な考えの持ち主だ。

Yuki was a designer with a realistic mindset.

「見てみる」とユキは応じ、隣に座った。

"Let me see," Yuki replied, sitting down next to him.

二人のそばにはテスト猫のミカンがいた。

Beside them was their test cat, Mikan.

ミカンは小さな毛布の上で丸くなり、アプリや人間には興味がなさそうだった。

Mikan was curled up on a small blanket, seemingly uninterested in the app or the humans.

はるとは頭をかきながら言った。「どうにかしてミカンに鳴いてもらわないと...」

Scratching his head, Haruto said, "We need to find a way to make Mikan meow..."

ユキは少し考えて、手に猫のおもちゃを持ってミカンに近づいた。

Yuki pondered for a moment, then approached Mikan with a cat toy in hand.

「これで、どう？」でも、ミカンは見向きもしない。

"How about this?" But Mikan didn't even glance at it.

ユキはため息をつき、次に試したのは、ツナの香りがするおやつをネックレスにして首にかけることだった。

Yuki sighed, and her next attempt was to wear a necklace made of tuna-scented treats.

「こんなのはどう？」

"How about this?"

その時、はるとはコードを書き進め、「ピン」と鳴るサウンドをパソコンにつけた。

Just then, Haruto added a "ping" sound to the code on the computer.

「これがうまくいけば...」ユキは首を傾げ、「本当に大丈夫？」と半信半疑だった。

"If this works..." Yuki tilted her head skeptically, "Are you sure about this?"

突然、ミカンが顔を上げてゆっくりと「にゃあ」と鳴いた。

Suddenly, Mikan lifted its head and slowly meowed, "Meow."

はるとはすぐにアプリを作動させ、翻訳したテキストを画面で確認した。

Haruto quickly activated the app and checked the translated text on the screen.

「人間はちょっとめんどくさい」という文字が現れた。

The words "Humans are a bit troublesome" appeared.

ユキは思わず笑い出した。

Yuki couldn't help but burst into laughter.

「これは...ちょっとおかしいかもね。でも、面白いわ！」

"This is... kind of silly, but it's funny!"

はるとは最初は困惑していたが、やがて微笑んで頷いた。

"Then why not market it as a comedy app?"

はるとは肩をすくめて笑った。

ユキはにっこりして、「だからこそ面白いのよ！」と答えた。
