In the heart of autumn, with the leaves dancing in the wind, Luca and Giulia's class was on a school trip to a farm.
The sun was shining, but the air was crisp.
The sky was such a clear blue that it seemed painted.
The children were happily running in the fields, but Luca had a different idea.
"Giulia, dobbiamo andare nel vecchio fienile!"
"Giulia, we have to go to the old barn!"
exclaimed Luca with eyes full of adventure.
"Perché?"
"Why?"
chiese Giulia, piantando bene i piedi a terra.
asked Giulia, firmly planting her feet on the ground.
"There aren’t any ghosts in there, you know."
"Ma dobbiamo controllare per esserne sicuri!"
"But we have to check to be sure!"
rispose Luca determinato.
replied Luca determined.
During the lunch break, while the teachers were distracted, Luca sneaked away.
Giulia sighed but followed her friend to keep him out of trouble.
The old barn was a worn-out building, with cobwebs in every corner and beams of light filtering through the cracks in the wood.
When they entered, a shadow seemed to move in the darkness.
"Hai sentito quel rumore?"
"Did you hear that noise?"
whispered Luca, feeling a chill down his spine.
"Yes, I heard it," admitted Giulia, worried but also a little excited.
Suddenly, a flapping sound filled the air, and a dark figure moved toward them.
The two friends held their breath, uncertain whether to hide or confront it.
"In the name of all the ghosts of Halloween, who's there?"
Luca raised his voice more out of courage than curiosity.
An owl flew out from one of the beams, darting over their heads.
It returned to its nest with a quiet hoot.
"Avevi paura di una civetta?"
"Were you afraid of an owl?"
Giulia burst out laughing, her heart finally relaxing.
"Well, it's not exactly a ghost," admitted Luca, a bit embarrassed but relieved.
The two friends ran back to the group, still with adrenaline in their veins.
They hadn't found a ghost, but they had discovered something real and wonderful.
From that day on, Luca was curious to learn more about animals and nature.
Giulia, on the other hand, learned not to shut herself off from Luca's imaginative tales.
As the sun began to set, the day in the countryside was coming to an end, but the bond between Luca and Giulia had become even stronger, nourished by shared adventures.
The laughter from that day in the barn echoed in their hearts, like the gentle sound of autumn leaves that continued to fall.
