The snow quietly covered the Zagreb streets as Ivana returned from Novi Sad where she had spent New Year's Eve with friends.
Beneath the thin layer of snow, houses were still adorned with holiday lights, and the air was fresh and cold.
Miris bora ispunjavao je cijeli kvart.
The scent of pine filled the entire neighborhood.
Ivana was excited but also slightly nervous.
She walked toward her old neighborhood, trying to reconcile childhood memories with what it is now.
Ivana se zaustavila ispred svoje stare kuće.
Ivana stopped in front of her old house.
Some memories were warm, while others reminded her of all the changes she had gone through.
She was equally excited and unsure about meeting with Marko, her friend from high school.
Things had changed, both had grown up, but Ivana deeply felt the need to rediscover a sense of belonging.
She decided to take a stroll through the neighborhood, observing the old bakery where they used to buy rolls after school.
Memories surged, and nostalgia overwhelmed her.
Zastala je ispred parka u kojem je često provodila vrijeme s Markom i Petrinom, njihovom zajedničkom prijateljicom.
She paused in front of the park where she often spent time with Marko and Petrina, their mutual friend.
The paths were covered with snow, and the benches peeked out like white monsters from a fairy tale.
Ivana je uzela telefon i napisala poruku Marku.
Ivana took her phone and typed a message to Marko.
"U parku sam.
"I'm in the park.
Hoćeš li doći?
Will you come?"
"Nekoliko minuta kasnije, Marko je došao.
A few minutes later, Marko arrived.
Although a lot of time had passed, his smile was the same.
They sat on the cold bench, and words flowed naturally.
"Strah me," priznala je Ivana tiho.
"I'm scared," Ivana admitted quietly.
"Strah me da sam se previše promijenila.
"I'm afraid I've changed too much."
"Marko je kimnuo.
Marko nodded.
"I mene.
"Me too.
No, promjene su normalne.
But changes are normal.
It doesn't mean we lose who we are."
Ivana took a deep breath, feeling her heart calm down.
Razgovarali su dugo o prošlim vremenima i budućim planovima.
They talked for a long time about past times and future plans.
They realized that changes are a part of life, but true friendship overcomes all obstacles.
As they walked toward the park's exit, Ivana felt relieved.
"Marko, ostanimo u kontaktu.
"Marko, let's stay in touch.
Bit ćemo tu jedno za drugo, u redu?
We'll be there for each other, okay?"
"Marko se nasmijao i klimnuo.
Marko smiled and nodded.
"Uvijek.
"Always."
"Dok je hodala kući, Ivana je shvatila važnu stvar.
As she walked home, Ivana realized an important thing.
The past was part of her, but that doesn't mean she has to leave everything behind.
Now she knew that she could grow and change without losing the connections that matter to her.
She felt peace, knowing that she finally, in her heart, had returned home.
