Ivan stood at the entrance of the colorful Zagreb market.

  • Bio je zimski dan, hladan, ali vedar.

It was a winter day, cold but clear.

Christmas lights twinkled in the sky, and the air smelled of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts.

There was a slight hustle and bustle in the air, everyone was buying something, laughing, talking.

He felt a heaviness in his heart and fought with his thoughts as he walked among the stalls full of gifts.

He thought of Marta and Nikola, his brother and sister, with whom he had not been close for years.

  • Bili su tu, u Zagrebu, i on je osjetio hitnu potrebu da ove godine pokuša sagraditi most između njih.

They were there, in Zagreb, and he felt an urgent need to try to build a bridge between them this year.

As he made his way through the crowd, his gaze fell upon a small stall full of decorations.

"Maybe this can be a symbol of hope," he thought when he spotted a small ceramic angel with outstretched arms.

He remembered all those Christmases when they laughed and shared moments that now seemed so distant and unattainable.

  • Ali onda, sumnje.

    But then, doubts.

"Can one gift fix what has been broken for years?"

  • " mrmljao je sebi u bradu.

    he murmured to himself.

His thoughts returned to past Christmases, to old disagreements and disappointments.

  • Ipak, odlučio je uzeti anđela.

Still, he decided to take the angel.

"It takes more than this," he told himself as he stood at the tram station, shoving his hands into his pockets.

  • "Moram više napraviti.

    "I have to do more."

When he got home, Ivan sat at a table covered with notes.

  • Napravio je toplo piće i počeo pisati.

He made a warm drink and started writing.

  • Po jedno pismo za Martu i Nikolu.

One letter each for Marta and Nikola.

  • Iskreno.

    Sincere.

He talked to them about his feelings of guilt, about how he missed them and how he wanted them to be together again.

He signed each letter with hope that words could bring change.

When the time came for the family meal, Ivan had a pounding heart.

He knocked on the door of his parents' house, where everyone had gathered.

The interior of the house smelled of Christmas cookies, and cheerful conversations filled the air.

  • Svima je uručio svoje darove — anđela i pismo.

He handed everyone his gifts — the angel and the letter.

  • Sada su svi sjedili, čitajući njegovo priznanje i razumijevanje.

Now they all sat, reading his confession and understanding.

  • Marta je prva podigla pogled i nasmiješila se rukama obgrlivši poklon.

Marta was the first to look up and smile, embracing the gift with her hands.

"I'm glad you're here," she said gently.

Nikola nodded, joining in silence but with an approving smile.

That evening, with the tree glowing and warm teas, Ivan felt he had made the first step towards healing.

He realized that gifts can help, but true reconciliation and love began with himself.

Now he was sure that he would build memories again, not just with purchased gifts, but with simple, sincere moments.

The Christmas magic was working, but this time, it was happiness from the heart.
