In every small room of an orphanage in Jerusalem, the children were busy with preparations for the festival of Sukkot.

The air was cool and filled with the scent of autumn leaves.

Malka, a ten-year-old girl with a warm smile, was busy making colorful paper chains for the large sukkah in the yard.

However, inside her heart, she was worried.

Yona, her best friend, was about to undergo surgery.

Yona was scared, but nobody noticed it except Malka.

The people were too busy with the holiday preparations, as were the caregivers.

Malka didn't want Yona to be alone in her fear.

    She had a plan.

She went at night to the craft room of the orphans and took colorful papers, scissors, and glue.

During the quiet and dark night, she made a small sukkah that could be assembled and brought along.

It was important to her that Yona feel the joy of the holiday, even in the hospital.

On the day before the surgery, as the celebrations intensified, Malka smiled at Yona and tried to strengthen her with words of encouragement.

After the celebrations ended, Malka went to the hospital, her sukkah ready in her heart.

When she arrived at the hospital, she sneaked into the recovery room after the surgery.

She quietly tried to assemble the sukkah in the corner of the room.

But then the duty nurses entered.

    Malka froze in place.

To her surprise, the nurses weren't angry.

They saw the touching gesture and joined in to help.

Together they set up the small sukkah.

When Yona woke up from the surgery, she saw the surprise in the room and was filled with joy.

    Malka smiled.

It was a moment that changed her.

She realized that the family she was looking for was already here, in Yona's smile, in the kindness of the people around her.

Within the orphanage, she found the home and connection she was searching for.

The sun set in Jerusalem, and Malka knew she was accepted just as she was.

The holiday was filled with light, not just outside, but also in the hearts of the children.
