Today was Yom Kippur.
Eitan stood in front of the abandoned warehouse, next to the dry field.
The orange leaves were fluttering in the autumn breeze, and he was thinking about the year that had passed.
He knew it was long overdue to ask for forgiveness from Noa for not being there last year.
The warehouse was empty, with rusty iron pillars and windows covered in dust.
The shadows were heavy, reminding Eitan of how heavy his heart had felt since the argument with Noa.
He had been avoiding contacting her, afraid to face the feelings of guilt.
@Noa appeared suddenly at the entrance of the warehouse.
"Eitan!" she called with a light smile, but Eitan noticed she was out of breath.
"I'm glad to see you," he said quietly.
But he was immediately struck by anxiety when her breathing was accompanied by a grating sound.
"Why did you come here?" he asked gently.
"I wanted to talk," she replied, adding: "But... I need... my inhaler."
Eitan panicked.
It took him a moment to realize she was having an asthma attack.
He didn't know what to do.
The warehouse was far from any populated area.
Suddenly, he noticed an old phone lying on one of the dusty shelves.
He ran to it, checked it nervously, and miraculously managed to get it working.
Eitan called the emergency services, his voice trembling but determined.
"Please, come quickly," he pleaded.
Finally, he hung up the phone and returned to Noa.
"They’re on their way," he said in a reassuring tone.
When the ambulance arrived, Noa already looked better.
"Thank you, Eitan," she whispered.
She wasn't just thanking him for the help, but for being there with her.
He smiled, suddenly feeling the weight of guilt lifting from him.
After Noa had been treated and was in better condition, they stepped out of the warehouse into the sunlight of repentance and reconciliation.
Among the leaves and slender shadows, there was a new beginning here.
The warm feeling of forgiveness connected them.
Eitan, with Noa holding his hand tight, felt a little more secure in himself, and knew that true forgiveness starts from within.
It was a new beginning for both of them, in the crisp air of this Yom Kippur.
