  • Bhí an ghrian sa spéir, agus an t-aer te cé go raibh ciúnas sa bhuncar rúnda faoin talamh.

The sun was in the sky, and the air was warm even though there was silence in the secret underground bunker.

  • Bhí Cian ag freastal ar Aoife sa bhuncar mar rud neamhghnách.

Cian was showing Aoife around the bunker, an unusual event.

  • Bheartaigh sé an áit a thaispeáint di, áit lán le soláthairtí éigeandála.

He decided to show her the place, which was full of emergency supplies.

  • Ní raibh Aoife cinnte faoi seo.

    Aoife wasn't sure about this.

  • Dúirt sí i gcónaí go raibh Cian an-i gceann ceart sin, ag réiteach do chásanna nach mbeadh ciall acu.

She always said that Cian was overly prepared, getting ready for situations that didn't make sense.

  • Ach an uair seo bhí rud éigin difriúil faoin mbuncar.

But this time, there was something different about the bunker.

  • Bhí seilfeanna le taiscí bia nach milleadh inti agus buidéil uisce curtha go cúramach i gcairteacha.

There were shelves stocked with non-perishable food and bottles of water placed carefully in crates.

  • Bhí lóchrainn ann a bhí ag fanacht lena lasadh.

There were lanterns waiting to be lit.

  • Chuir an t-atmaisféar scáil coirp don rud neamhchinnte.

The atmosphere cast a body shadow of the uncertain.

  • "Cén fáth atá riachtanais mar seo uain na seachtaine?

"Why do we need such things mid-week?"

  • " d'fhiafraigh Aoife go beagáinín géarchúiseach.

    Aoife asked a bit sharply.

  • "Tá tú ag féachaint, Aoife," freagraíonn Cian, "ní féidir a bheith ró-ullmhaithe.

"You're looking, Aoife," replied Cian, "you can't be too prepared.

  • Cad más rud é go raibh drúd talún ann?

What if there was an earthquake?

  • Nó má chuireamar go huathoibríoch ar sheasamh?

Or if we were automatically put on alert?"

  • " D'éirigh a shúile níos leithne lena shaothar moll.

His eyes widened with his readiness.

  • Bhí sé ag súil le tacaíocht, nó ar a laghad tuiscint.

He was hoping for support, or at least understanding.

  • Go tobann, thosaigh na scamaill dorcha ag comhdéanamh sa spéir fad is a raibh siad sa bhuncar.

Suddenly, dark clouds started to form in the sky while they were in the bunker.

  • Níor éirigh an spéir chomh luath, ach mar sin is fíor gheall orthu go mbíodh stoirm imnithe anseo.

The sky hadn't cleared up quickly, but it was true to say that storms often arose here.

  • Thosaigh an bháisteach ag pléascadh go tréan le tormán gaoithe cuiseach.

The rain began to burst forth with a booming, whistling wind.

  • Bhog an buncar go cluthar, agus bhí an tuiscint intuartha.

The bunker felt cozier, and the intuition was justified.

  • Bhí Aoife ag éisteacht leis an mbáisteach a bhuail ar aghaidh.

Aoife was listening to the rain beating down.

  • Ba é seo an t-am nuair a tháinig eatarthu ansin, go raibh suíomh cosúil leis maith mar choimeád.

This was the time when it dawned on her that having a place like this might be a good idea for storage.

  • "B'fhéidir bhí ceart agat, Cian.

    "Maybe you were right, Cian.

  • B'fhéidir gur chóir dúinn a bheith beagán ullmhaithe," a dúirt Aoife, ag tabhairt an chéad chéim i dtreo an tacaíocht ag traenáil ar bhord ab é leis an gcoinníoll go raibh níos lú eaglaisí ar an gcéad cheann eile.

Maybe we should be a little prepared," Aoife said, taking the first step toward supporting the training board as long as the rules were less strict next time.

  • Bhí áthas ar Cian, ach d'aithin sé nach raibh sé ag iarraidh a bheith ró-dhian le moltaí os coinne.

Cian was happy, but he realized he didn't want to be too forceful with suggestions.

  • D'fhoghlaim sé go raibh cothrom beartaithe níos fearr ar gach taobh agus is féidir le breathnú ar ghlacadh creideamh náisiún eile a bheith úsáideach.

He learned that a balanced approach on all sides was better and that looking at adopting another nation's practices can be useful.

  • Agus mar sin, thosaigh siad le chéile ar laistigh den bhuncar nua sin, le spiorad comhordaithe lán le suíomh agus go rachaidh siad ann amach níos áthas.

And so, they started together within that new bunker, with a coordinated spirit full of resolve and set to emerge more content.
