  • I lár an gheimhridh, faoi bhrat bán sneachta, bhí caisleán beag ann, Cábán Teolaí a thugtar air.

In the middle of winter, under a blanket of white snow, there was a small castle known as Cábán Teolaí.

  • Bhí an áit seo lonnaithe i gcoill chiúin, lán de shuaimhneas agus rún.

This place was located in a quiet forest, full of tranquility and mystery.

  • Gan ach cúpla lámh de theaghlach iontach, ba é Siobhán, Liam, agus Bríd thíos staonadh ann.

With only a few members of a wonderful family, it was Siobhán, Liam, and Bríd who resided there.

  • Sa chábán beag seo, gach oíche, bhí an tine crackalach ag coinneáil an tseomra te agus taitneamhach.

In this small cabin, every night, the crackling fire kept the room warm and pleasant.

  • Ach, bhí rud éigin neamhrialta faoi thíos an áit.

However, there was something irregular about the place below.

  • Ag meán oíche, sheas Siobhán ag barr na staighre a d’fhéach síos go basement dorcha, áit a bhfaca sí solas corrach a lasadh go fada ón íochtar.

At midnight, Siobhán stood at the top of the stairs looking down into a dark basement, where she saw a flickering light glowing far from below.

  • Cé nár chuir sé eagla uirthi de ghnáth, bhí faitíos aici roimh an dorchadas, rud nach raibh aon duine eile ar lorg.

Although she was not usually frightened, she had a fear of the darkness, something no one else was searching for.

  • “Caithfidh mé an solas seo a fháil amach,” a dúirt Siobhán léi féin agus éachtaí faoi mistéireach ag cuairtiú air.

“I must find out about this light,” Siobhán said to herself, with mysterious events swirling in her mind.

  • I gcúl a hintinne, chuala sí glór Liam.

In the back of her mind, she heard Liam's voice.

  • “Níl ann ach seans, níl aon rud le dhéanamh ann,” a mheas sé.

“It’s just a fluke, there’s nothing to be done about it,” he thought.

  • Ach thug Bríd ceist an solais ar rudaí nach raibh go maith.

But Bríd raised questions about the light regarding things that weren’t right.

  • “Féadair go bhfuil comharthaí, comharthaí agamsa,” a dúirt sí go hatámach.

“There might be signs, signs I have,” she said solemnly.

  • Ach, bhí rún amháin ag Siobhán.

    Yet, Siobhán had one secret.

  • Bhí sí meáite ar an doras faoi ghlas a oscailt agus an íochtar a fhiosrú.

She was determined to unlock the locked door and explore the basement.

  • Shuigh sí ansin, ag feitheamh go sardánach leis an meán oíche.

She sat there, patiently waiting for midnight.

  • Nuair a thit an clog ar cheann na hoíche, ghoid sí síos go ciúin, croí ag preabadh ina cliabh.

When the clock struck midnight, she quietly slipped down, her heart pounding in her chest.

  • Thóg sí eochracha ó laincis na mBall agus trasnaigh an gearrthóg ar bhloc na teorainne.

She took keys from the chains of the Ball and crossed the clip on the border block.

  • Anois, bhí an doras oscailte aici.

Now, she had the door open.

  • Chuaigh sí isteach, céim i ndiaidh chéime, faoin solas lonrach.

She went inside, step by step, under the glowing light.

  • Ag bun an staighrín, gheal solas buí ag lasadh taobh thiar de sheanfhalla.

At the bottom of the stairs, a yellow light shone from behind an old wall.

  • Sa deireadh, nocht sí lampa sean ama, rud a lasadh go spontáineach ón ghairdín taobh amuigh den bhfoirgneamh.

In the end, she uncovered an old-time lamp, something that spontaneously lit up from the garden outside the building.

  • Fiosracht d'aois faoi rún dearmadta ón am a bhí ann an teach seo.

Curiosity of old about a forgotten secret from the time this house existed.

  • Anois, bhí a fhios ag Siobhán an stair a bhí ann.

Now, Siobhán knew the history that was there.

  • Cainnte faoi thiarascán a bhí aici ionas nach bhféadfadh uafás teacht ar ais.

She had a report, so horror could not return.

  • Bhí an mistéir réitithe, agus sa loom na hoíche, d’fhill sí ar ais go dtí an tine, áit a raibh sí sábháilte agus gan dragan.

The mystery was solved, and in the loom of the night, she returned to the fire, where she was safe and unharmed.

  • Rud amháin a bhí neamhghlan, ach níos mó spreagadh sa féinmhuinín a bhí aici anois.

One thing was unclear, but more confidence was now instilled within her.

  • I rith an lae, bhí sí ag cur líonta sosa ar an tolg in éineacht le Liam agus Bríd, gan aon eagla ar a hinchinn.

During the day, she lounged on the couch with Liam and Bríd, without any fear in her mind.

  • Mar sin féin, mar an mean oíche athraigh go lá, níor chuir sé eagla uirthi arís - bhí sí arig a dhul tar éis a instinct féin a leanúint.

Nevertheless, as midnight turned to day, she was no longer afraid – she was adept at following her own instincts.
