Helsingin Kauppatorilla oli vilinää ja vilskettä.
Helsingin Kauppatorilla was bustling with activity.
The wind blew coolly, but the market had a warm atmosphere nonetheless.
Vendors arranged the autumn harvest on their tables, and the air was filled with the scent of the sea and the delicacies from the food stalls.
Aino ja Eero kuljeskelivat torin reunalla, etsien jotain erityistä.
Aino and Eero wandered around the edge of the market, looking for something special.
"Tarvitsen kurpitsaa", Aino sanoi innoissaan, "Ruoanlaittokilpailu on jo viikonloppuna!"
"I need a pumpkin," Aino said excitedly, "The cooking competition is already this weekend!"
Eero nyökkäsi vakavana.
Eero nodded seriously.
"Muistithan, että tarvitsemme sata kurpitsaa?"
"You did remember that we need a hundred pumpkins?"
Aino oli miettinyt reseptiään hyvin tarkkaan.
Aino had thought through her recipe very carefully.
Hän hymyili itsevarmasti.
She smiled confidently.
"Totta kai!
"Of course!
Sata kurpitsaa.
A hundred pumpkins.
Se kuulostaa paljolta, mutta me teemme kaikkemme voittaaksemme."
It sounds like a lot, but we'll do everything we can to win."
He pysähtyivät vihanneskojun eteen, jonka takana vanha myyjä odotti asiakkaita.
They stopped in front of a vegetable stall, behind which an old vendor was waiting for customers.
Kojussa oli vain yksi kurpitsa jäljellä.
There was only one pumpkin left in the stall.
"Saako tässä ostaa kurpitsoita?"
"Can we buy pumpkins here?"
Eero kysyi innokkaana.
Eero asked eagerly.
"Valitettavasti vain tämä yksi on jäljellä", myyjä vastasi.
"Unfortunately, only this one is left," the vendor replied.
"On ollut kiireinen päivä."
"It's been a busy day."
Aino katsoi kurpitsaa epäuskoisena.
Aino looked at the pumpkin incredulously.
"Eero, tätä ei ole lähellekään tarpeeksi."
"Eero, this isn't nearly enough."
"Eikö me tarvita vain yksi kilo?"
"Don't we just need one kilo?"
Eero yritti ymmärtää.
Eero tried to understand.
"Ei, yksi sata kurpitsaa!"
"No, one hundred pumpkins!"
Aino kiihtyi.
Aino exclaimed.
"Meidän täytyy löytää lisää."
"We need to find more."
He kulkivat kojulta toiselle, keräten kurpitsoita kainalot täynnä, kunnes kurpitsoita oli yltäkyllin.
They went from stall to stall, gathering pumpkins with armloads full, until there was an abundance of pumpkins.
He miettivät, miten kantaisivat ne kaikki kotiin.
They wondered how they would carry them all home.
"Ehkä meidän pitäisi vuokrata auto", Eero ehdotti, mutta heidän miettiessään ratkaisuja, samainen vihannesmyyjä ilmestyi heidän viereensä, nauraen ja veti heidät syrjään.
"Maybe we should rent a car," Eero suggested, but as they pondered solutions, the same vegetable vendor appeared beside them, laughing, and pulled them aside.
"Anteeksi, mutta kuulitteko väärin?
"Sorry, but did you hear wrong?
The need was only one kilo, not one hundred pumpkins!"
Aino ja Eero katsoivat toisiaan hämmentyneinä.
Aino and Eero looked at each other, bewildered.
"Voi ei... olemme tehneet valtavan virheen", Aino huokasi.
"Oh no... we've made a huge mistake," Aino sighed.
Häpeästä huolimatta he päättivät ottaa tilanteen huumorilla.
Despite the embarrassment, they decided to take the situation with humor.
He keksivät idean: he avasivat pikaisen kurpitsanjakopisteen Kauppatorilla.
They came up with an idea: they opened an impromptu pumpkin distribution point at Kauppatorilla.
Ohikulkijat pysähtyivät innoissaan ottamaan ilmaisia kurpitsoita.
Passersby stopped excitedly to take free pumpkins.
Joy spread through the market, and soon Aino and Eero were laughing along with everyone else.
Kilpailupäivänä Aino valmisteli kuuluisaa kurpitsakeittoaan.
On competition day, Aino prepared her famous pumpkin soup.
Even though they had only one kilo of pumpkin, the soup was perfect.
There was no win in the competition, but Aino learned an important lesson: it's wise to double-check the recipe carefully.
Eero, on his part, learned that asking is always better than assuming.
Kauppatorilla keräilytalonki jaettu kurpitsailo oli jäänyt elämään tarinoina, ja syksyn tuulet veivät opit mukanaan uusiin seikkailuihin.
The pumpkin-sharing festivity at Kauppatorilla had remained in stories, and the autumn winds carried the lessons with them to new adventures.
