Veikkolle tämä kaikki tuntui vieraalta.

To Veikko, all of this felt foreign.

Hän oli mukavuusalueellaan tietokoneiden parissa eikä perinteiden keskellä.

He was in his comfort zone with computers, not amidst traditions.

Pirjo, Veikon täti, kolkutteli hänen oveensa iloisena.

Pirjo, Veikko's aunt, knocked on his door cheerfully.

"Veikko! Tulehan nyt ulos katsomaan! On juhannus ja sinun on aika nauttia perinteistä," Pirjo sanoi ja hymyili leveästi.

"Veikko! Come outside and have a look! It's juhannus and it's time for you to enjoy some traditions," Pirjo said with a wide smile.

Veikko huokaisi hiljaa.

Veikko sighed softly.

"Taidan olla enemmän sisäänpäin kääntynyt, näin koodarin hommissa," hän mutisi, mutta nousi kuitenkin ylös, tietäen ettei täti antaisi periksi helpolla.

"I guess I'm more introverted, being a coder and all," he muttered, but got up nonetheless, knowing his aunt wouldn't give up easily.

Pirjo oli aina ollut perinteiden puolestapuhuja ja Veikko tiesi, että tämä ilta voisi olla hyvä tilaisuus päivittää hänen tuntemustaan suomalaisista juhlista.

Pirjo had always been a strong advocate for traditions, and Veikko knew that this evening could be a good opportunity to update his understanding of Finnish celebrations.

He kävelivät yhdessä järven rannalle, jossa suuri joukko ihmisiä oli jo kokoontunut.

They walked together to the lakeside, where a large crowd had already gathered.

Ilma oli täynnä grillin savua ja iloista naurua.

The air was filled with the smoke from grills and cheerful laughter.

Around him, people were dressed in national costumes and sang old songs.

Kun keskiyön aika lähestyi ja kokko vihdoin sytytettiin, liekit nuolivat taivasta.

As midnight approached and the bonfire was finally lit, the flames licked the sky.

Pirjo kääntyi Veikon puoleen.

Pirjo turned to Veikko.

"Nyt on aika tanssia. Tulehan mukaan!" hän sanoi ja ojensi kätensä kutsuvasti.

"Now it's time to dance. Come on!" she said, extending her hand invitingly.

Veikko epäröi.

Veikko hesitated.

Hänen mielensä täyttyi epäilyillä.

His mind was filled with doubts.

Entä jos hän häpäisee itsensä?

What if he embarrassed himself?

Entä jos hän ei osaa askelia?

What if he didn't know the steps?

Mutta kun hän katseli ympärilleen, hän näki ystävälliset kasvot, ihmisiä, jotka odottivat saavat juhlia yhdessä.

But as he looked around, he saw friendly faces, people who were eager to celebrate together.

Lopulta hän tarttui Pirjon käteen.

Finally, he took Pirjo's hand.

Alussa Veikko kompasteli askelissaan, ja hänen liikkeensä tuntuivat kömpelöiltä.

At first, Veikko stumbled with his steps, and his movements felt clumsy.

Mutta sitten tapahtui jotain ihmeellistä: hän alkoi todella nauttia juhlimisesta.

But then something miraculous happened: he began to truly enjoy the celebration.

Hän antoi musiikin viedä mukanaan ja unohti itsensä, heiluen nuotiovalossa muiden mukana.

He let the music carry him and forgot about himself, swaying by the firelight with the others.

Kun hän nauroi Pirjon ja muiden juhlaväen kanssa, hänen sisällään tulvahti käsittämätön ilo ja yhteenkuuluvuuden tunne.

As he laughed with Pirjo and the other revelers, an indescribable joy and sense of belonging surged within him.

Hän tunsi viimeinkin, että tämä juhla, nämä ihmiset ja tämä perinne kuuluivat juuri hänelle.

He finally felt that this festival, these people, and this tradition belonged to him.

Ilta päättyi ja Veikko istui järven rannassa kokkotulen loisteessa.

The evening came to an end, and Veikko sat by the lakeside in the glow of the bonfire.

Hän kiitti Pirjoa tästä kokemuksesta.

He thanked Pirjo for this experience.

Hän oli löytänyt jotain, mitä oli etsinyt: yhteyden suomalaisiin juuriinsa ja osan elävästä perinteestä.

He had found something he was looking for: a connection to his Finnish roots and a part of living tradition.
