Võhandu jõe ääres, kus puud kandsid kuldseid ja punaseid lehti, seisis Kertu.
By the Võhandu River, where the trees bore golden and red leaves, stood Kertu.
She looked around, her nose filled with the scent of moisture and decaying leaves rising from the autumn air.
All Saints' Day was approaching, and Kertu wanted to pay tribute to her grandmother on that day.
Võhandu jõgi oli Kertu vanaema lemmikkoht.
The Võhandu River was Kertu's grandmother's favorite place.
They often spent time there together, summer breeze in their hair and water rustling between the stones.
Now, with her grandmother gone, Kertu felt pain in her heart.
She wanted to do something special but didn't know how to put her love and loss into words.
Kertu's friend Reiko, smiling and always full of life, stepped beside her.
"Kas sa vajad abi, Kertu?"
"Do you need help, Kertu?"
küsis ta, pilk täis mõistmist.
he asked, his gaze full of understanding.
"Jah, Reiko," vastas Kertu vaikse häälega.
"Yes, Reiko," replied Kertu in a quiet voice.
"Ma tahan teha midagi erilist vanaemale, aga ma tunnen end nii eksinuna."
"I want to do something special for my grandmother, but I feel so lost."
Reiko pani käe Kertu õlale.
Reiko placed a hand on Kertu's shoulder.
"Me võiksime teha laternaid," pakkus ta.
"We could make lanterns," he suggested.
"Nagu need, mida me lapsena tegime.
"Like the ones we made as children.
Laseme need vee peale ja vaatame, kuhu jõgi nad viib."
We'll let them float on the water and see where the river takes them."
Kertu silmad lõid särama.
Kertu's eyes lit up.
She remembered those evenings when the burning lanterns reflected on the river's surface like tiny stars.
Ehk oli just see lihtne, kuid südamlik tegu see, mida ta otsis.
Perhaps this simple but heartfelt act was exactly what she was looking for.
Koos asusid nad tööle.
Together they set to work.
Lehed kukkusid nende ümber vaikides, nagu loodus ise järele mõtleks.
Leaves fell silently around them, as if nature itself was reflecting.
They crafted lanterns, adding love and memories to each one that the grandmother had gifted them.
Õhtu saabudes tõid nad laternad jõe äärde.
As evening approached, they brought the lanterns to the riverbank.
Jää hakkas juba jõele tekkima, krõmpsudes nõrgalt.
Ice was already beginning to form on the river, crackling faintly.
Kertu tundis end hetkeks hirmununa – kas jõe rahu on häiritud?
Kertu felt a moment of fear—was the peace of the river disturbed?
Reiko surus tema kätt.
Reiko squeezed her hand.
"Kertu, see on meie viis mäletada ja tänada.
"Kertu, this is our way to remember and give thanks.
Jõgi juhatab meie mälestused õigesse kohta."
The river will guide our memories to the right place."
Nad süütasid laternad.
They lit the lanterns.
Kertu vaatas, kuidas need veepinnal hõljusid, igas laternas mälestus vanaemast.
Kertu watched them float on the water's surface, each lantern holding a memory of her grandmother.
She finally opened her mouth, speaking loudly about her favorite places, the sweet warmth of the summer sun, and her grandmother's smiles.
Tears flowed down her cheeks, but she no longer felt bound by sorrow.
She continued speaking, and with each word, her spirit felt a little more freed.
Laternad liikusid vaikselt allavoolu, kandes endas Kertu sõnu ja tundeid.
The lanterns drifted quietly downstream, carrying Kertu's words and feelings.
Jõgi paistis neid omaks võtvat, nagu vanaema oleks neid seal alt tervitanud.
The river seemed to welcome them, as if her grandmother were greeting them from below.
Kertu vaatas, kuidas need kaugusse kadusid, hinge täis rahu ja sidet.
Kertu watched as they disappeared into the distance, her heart full of peace and connection.
Nüüd tundis Kertu end tugevamana, avatumana.
Now, Kertu felt stronger, more open.
With that feeling, she knew she had found a way to keep her grandmother's memory alive—through love, through memories, through uniting with the river.
Reiko stood beside her, grateful to have been there for support and to be part of those special moments.
