  • Lumi katab maad, raadios mängib rahulik muusika ja perekond Kalle elab oma suures kodus Tallinna lähedal.

Snow blankets the ground, peaceful music plays on the radio, and the Kalle family lives in their large home near Tallinn.

  • Kert, perekonna isa, on täna eriti hõivatud.

Kert, the family's father, is particularly busy today.

  • Ta korjab paberilt viimased mustad kirjed.

He is picking the last black notes from the paper.

  • Tema mõtted on juba laupäeva õhtusöögil, sest ees ootab suur perekondlik kokkusaamine.

His thoughts are already on Saturday's dinner, as a big family gathering awaits.

  • Kõik peab olema täiuslik.

    Everything must be perfect.

  • Maarika istub diivanil, süvenenud oma telefoni.

Maarika sits on the couch, engrossed in her phone.

She ignores Kert, who asks her to help draft a shopping list.

  • "Maarika," alustab Kert rahulikult, "meil on vaja see nimekiri valmis saada."

"Maarika," Kert begins calmly, "we need to get this list ready."

  • Maarika ohkab sügavalt.

    Maarika sighs deeply.

  • "Isa, meil on külmkapp alati täis.

"Dad, our fridge is always full.

  • Miks me peame nii palju vaeva nägema?"

Why do we have to go through so much trouble?"

  • küsib ta kaheldes.

    she asks doubtfully.

  • "Traditsioonid on olulised.

    "Traditions are important.

  • Meie pere kogunemine on igal talvel," seletab Kert.

Our family gathering is every winter," explains Kert.

  • Tema kannatlikkus hakkab õhukeseks kuluma.

    His patience is wearing thin.

"And dear girl, I hope you understand how important this is to me."

Kert feels that the scarcity of time is his biggest enemy.

Then, Ilmar, Kert's brother, enters, his body language calm and carefree.

  • "Kuidas läheb?

    "How's it going?

  • Olen valmis minema," ütleb Ilmar.

I'm ready to go," says Ilmar.

He looks at the clock and smiles at his own carelessness.

  • "Ma helistasin sulle pool tundi tagasi," ütleb Kert, pettumust varjamata.

"I called you half an hour ago," says Kert, unable to hide his disappointment.

  • "Ah, ma unustasin.

    "Oh, I forgot.

But there's still time before Christmas, isn't there?"

  • vastab Ilmar.

    Ilmar replies.

  • Kert teadvustab, et nad peavad kiiresti otsustama.

Kert realizes they need to make quick decisions.

Should he force everyone to act according to his will, or find a golden middle ground?

  • Ta hingab sügavalt.

    He takes a deep breath.

  • "Okei, Maarika, Ilmar.

    "Okay, Maarika, Ilmar.

  • Proovime midagi uut."

    Let's try something new."

  • Maarika silmad säravad üllatusest.

    Maarika's eyes shine with surprise.

  • "Mis mõttes?"

    "What do you mean?"

  • "Võiksime koostada nimekirja koos ja võtta arvesse uusi ideid, kui midagi traditsioonilistele roogadele lisada," ütleb Kert.

"We could make the list together and consider new ideas for adding something to the traditional dishes," says Kert.

  • Maarika on elevil.

    Maarika is excited.

  • "Võiksime näiteks porgandikotlette teha.

"For example, we could make carrot patties.

  • Olen kuulnud, et need maitsevad hästi."

    I've heard they taste good."

  • Ilmar noogutab nõustusena.

    Ilmar nods in agreement.

  • "Proovime siis niiviisi."

    "Let's try this way."

  • Kolmekesi koostavad nad lõpuks ühise poenimekirja.

The three of them finally compile a joint shopping list.

  • Aeg on minna poodi, lund sadab rahulikult.

It's time to go to the store, as snow falls gently.

Maarika feels that her father has become more flexible.

  • "Ma tegelikult hindan, kui rääkides kuulad."

"I really appreciate it when you listen while talking."

  • Kert naeratab.

    Kert smiles.

  • "Vahel on vaja uusi lähenemisi."

    "Sometimes new approaches are needed."

  • Nad jõuavad tagasi koju.

    They return home.

  • Külliaia pere koguneb peagi ja lõhnad köögist on lõppude lõpuks imelised.

The Külliaia family will soon gather, and the aromas from the kitchen are wonderful in the end.

Guests gather around the table and try Maarika's new carrot patties, which turn out to be a real surprise.

  • Kert vaatab Maarikat ja näeb, kuidas traditsioon ja innovatsioon võivad käsikäes käia.

Kert looks at Maarika and sees how tradition and innovation can go hand in hand.

  • Kõige olulisem on olla koos.

The most important thing is to be together.
