Tuul ulgus läbi tühjade, vanade majade aknaavade, mille vahele ilmastik on kogunud jääpurikaid.
The wind howled through the empty window openings of the old houses, between which the weather had gathered icicles.
Märt ja Külliki liikusid tasa läbi varjude, jalad põksumas külma lumekatte all.
Märt and Külliki moved quietly through the shadows, their feet pounding under the cold snow cover.
Vanasti oli see olnud elav küla, Läänemere ääres, kus tihti tähistati jaaniõhtut.
In the past, this had been a lively village by the Baltic Sea, where Midsummer's Eve was often celebrated.
Now it was just ghostly, buried under ice and snow, reminiscent of a forgotten time.
Märt tõstis pea ja sirutas käe Külliki poole.
Märt lifted his head and reached his hand toward Külliki.
"Seal," sosistas ta vaikselt, osutades lagunenud hoone poole.
"There," he whispered softly, pointing toward a crumbling building.
"Võib-olla leiame seal midagi kasulikku," juurde lisas.
"Maybe we'll find something useful there," he added.
Külliki silmad kitsenesid.
Külliki's eyes narrowed.
"See on ohtlik," märkis ta vaikselt, astudes Märtile järele.
"It's dangerous," she noted quietly, stepping after Märt.
"Me ei tea, kes või mis siin peituda võib."
"We don't know who or what might be hiding here."
Ent Märt raputas pead, lootus hinges löömas.
But Märt shook his head, hope flickering in his heart.
"Me peame proovima, Külliki.
"We have to try, Külliki.
Seal võib olla veel keegi.
There might still be someone.
Või vähemalt midagi, mis annab meile suuna."
Or at least something that gives us direction."
Nad liikusid aeglaselt, jälgides iga väiksematki heli.
They moved slowly, attentive to the slightest sound.
Külm tuul pistis nende paljastunud nägusid, jäine õhk rasket hingamist takistamas.
The cold wind stung their exposed faces, the icy air making breathing difficult.
Märt tema ees, Külliki vaikselt järeltulemas, nad sisenesid varemetesse.
Märt, ahead, with Külliki quietly following, they entered the ruins.
Inside the building, it was as dark as a grave, with only a little light finding its way through the icicles.
Läbi pragude piilusid veel mõned vanad mööblitükid.
Through the cracks, a few old pieces of furniture peeked.
Märt pöördus ümber, paljastades oma leid – mõned purgid talvevarusid.
Märt turned around, revealing his find – some jars of winter supplies.
"Vaata, Külliki!"
"Look, Külliki!"
naeris ta.
he laughed.
"Toit!"
"Food!"
There was a moment of calm until they heard a sound that wasn't the wind.
Sammud.
Footsteps.
Külm õhk pinguldus ärevusest.
The cold air tightened with anxiety.
Külliki, käsi valmis relv haardesse võtma, haaras Märtist kinni.
Külliki, readying her hand to grasp a weapon, grabbed Märt.
Nende ees ilmus välja võõras, kalk ja vaenulik.
In front of them appeared a stranger, cold and hostile.
"Kes te olete?"
"Who are you?"
küsis ta ettevaatlikult samme astudes.
he asked cautiously, taking steps forward.
Märt tõmbas sügavalt hinge.
Märt took a deep breath.
"Me oleme lihtsalt rändurid.
"We're just travelers.
Otsime toitu ja peavarju."
We're looking for food and shelter."
The stranger looked at them for a long time, weighing his words, finally softening his voice.
"Ma tean, kus on teisi.
"I know where there are others.
Maybe you can help us, and we can help you in return."
See pakkumine tõi Märtile naeratuse näole, kuid Külliki jäi ettevaatlikuks.
This offer brought a smile to Märt's face, but Külliki remained cautious.
"Kuidas saame me teid usaldada?"
"How can we trust you?"
küsis ta silmad kitsaks suskudes.
she asked, narrowing her eyes.
Võõras nõjatus seina najale, soojus naasis tema häälde.
The stranger leaned against the wall, warmth returning to his voice.
"Sest just nagu te, olen ma samuti ellujääja."
"Because just like you, I'm also a survivor."
After a brief moment of thought, Külliki looked at Märt, and they realized it was time to try trust.
Üheskoos leidsid nad uusi sõpru ja peagi tee, mis viiks nad edasiviiva tuleviku suunas.
Together, they found new friends and soon a path leading them toward a forward-looking future.
Jäine tuul lõpetas oma hargi, jättes nende hinge uue õhu – teadmatuse, ent lootuse täis.
The icy wind ended its spell, leaving their breath with new air – full of uncertainty, yet hope.
Selles külmas maises maailmas võis elu taasleida uue tähenduse.
In this cold earthly world, life could find new meaning again.
Külliki hoidis Mardi käest kinni, teades, et hoolimata raskustest, pole nad üksi.
Külliki held Märt's hand, knowing that despite the hardships, they were not alone.
Now they had a new goal, new hope, and new friendships.
Lõpuks ometi oli kurssi muudetud.
At last, the course had changed.
