Lumiste puudevaheline rada viis Katrini, Maarja ja Uku Tartu Vanasse Observatooriumi.
The path between the lumist trees led Katrin, Maarja, and Uku to the Tartu Vanasse Observatooriumi.
Päike hakkas loojuma, lastes tähed pisitasa paista.
The sun began to set, gradually allowing the stars to appear.
The meadows were covered in a white blanket, and the winter's chill was felt everywhere.
Katrin astus ettevaatlikult üle läve.
Katrin stepped cautiously over the threshold.
"Siin kohtusime vanavanaemaga viimati," sosistas ta, meenutades oma armsat vanaema Annet.
"This is where we last met great-grandmother," she whispered, recalling her dear grandmother Anne.
She had always been a bit different, speaking of the secrets of the stars and destiny.
Maarja järgnes, hoides kramplikult vanaema jäätunud vihmamantlit.
Maarja followed, clutching tightly their grandmother's frozen raincoat.
"Täna on õige aeg täita tema soov," ütles Maarja, püüdes tuua peret kokku sellel eripäeval, õigeusklikul jõulul.
"Today is the right time to fulfill her wish," said Maarja, trying to bring the family together on this special day, the Orthodox Christmas.
Uku jäi eemale, vaadates pigem läbi teleskoobi kui keskendudes rituaalidele.
Uku stayed back, preferring to look through the telescope rather than focus on rituals.
"Miks me peame seda tegema?"
"Why do we have to do this?"
küsis ta mornilt.
he asked gloomily.
"Tähtedel ei ole sõnumeid."
"The stars have no messages."
"Nii ütleb meie teadus, aga mõnikord tuleb austada ka südant," vastas Maarja, naeratades poegadele.
"That's what our science says, but sometimes we must also honor the heart," Maarja replied, smiling at her sons.
Katrin avas vana suure ümbriku.
Katrin opened the large old envelope.
She knew it contained grandmother's letter, but she feared its contents.
It was said that this letter revealed something special.
"Vanaema uskus tähtede jõusse," ütles Katrin, kui nad jõudsid torni tippu.
"Grandmother believed in the power of stars," Katrin said as they reached the top of the tower.
Kõik olid elevil, kuid õhus oli pinge.
Everyone was excited, but there was tension in the air.
"Meil tuleb tõde teada."
"We must know the truth."
Maarja, hoolimata oma praktilisusest, hoidis pastaka tõsiselt.
Maarja, despite her practicality, held the pen seriously.
"Mis seal kirjas on?"
"What does it say?"
küsis ta.
she asked.
Katrin hingas sügavalt sisse.
Katrin took a deep breath.
She opened the envelope carefully, not wanting to damage its deep meaning.
See oligi vanaema käekiri, kuid midagi huvitavat – vanaema oli teinud täpset märkmeid konkreetsete tähtede kohta ja viidanud kadunud astronoomilistele nähtustele.
It was indeed grandmother's handwriting, but something interesting — grandmother had made precise notes about specific stars and referred to lost astronomical phenomena.
"Nad ühinevad üks kord" seisis seal.
"They unite once," it said.
"Tähed räägivad, kui saame hetkeks unustada igapäevaelu."
"The stars speak when we can momentarily forget everyday life."
Hetkeks vaikisid kõik.
For a moment, everyone was silent.
See polnud mitte üksnes soov, vaid tõepoolest rännak minevikku ja tulevikku.
It was not just a wish but truly a journey into the past and future.
Uku, being scientifically minded, read and drew parallels in his notebook with his observations in science.
Vanaema tundis tähti, nagu teadlane, leidis noormees.
Grandmother knew the stars like a scientist, the young man found.
Maarja acknowledged intertwined fates and science, admitting that life is larger than her beliefs.
Katrin seisis akna juures, vaadates taevasse.
Katrin stood by the window, looking at the sky.
She realized that both science and grandmother's wisdom could coexist side by side.
This new knowledge was something to be honored and understood.
See oli hetk, kus traditsioon ja teadus sõbrunesid.
It was a moment when tradition and science became friends.
As the trio descended the tower stairs, a harmonious feeling of ease and joy breathed among them.
Tähed?
The stars?
Jah, nad rääkisid - läbi meie ja meie lugude.
Yes, they spoke - through us and our stories.
