Kevadine päike paistis pehme sooja valgusega kööki.
The spring sun shone with a soft, warm light into the kitchen.
Männilauast valmistatud suur söögilaud oli kaetud lihtsate roogadega.
The large dining table, made of pine wood, was covered with simple dishes.
The walls were full of family photos that reminded of times gone by.
Kuid selles soojas toas hingitses pinge, mis ähvardas peagi välja murda.
But in this warm room, a tension lingered, threatening to soon break out.
Mati istus laua otsas, kergelt närviline, kuid püüdes olla rahulik.
Mati sat at the head of the table, slightly nervous but trying to remain calm.
Tema soov oli selge: tuua perekond kokku.
His desire was clear: to bring the family together.
Kuid viimased aastad olid keerulised olnud.
But the past years had been difficult.
Keset toitu ja vestlusi varitsesid rääkimata teemad ja vanad haavad.
Amidst the food and conversations lurked unspoken topics and old wounds.
Liisa, Mati vanem õde, lõikas vaikselt liha.
Liisa, Mati's older sister, quietly sliced the meat.
Tema silmad olid keskendunud, kuid mõttesse vajunud.
Her eyes were focused but lost in thought.
Kaarel, nende noorem vend, istus diivanil, veidi eemal, nokitsedes telefoni kallal.
Kaarel, their younger brother, sat on the sofa a little further away, fiddling with his phone.
„Kas sa mäletad, kuidas me nooremana koos metsas käisime?
"Do you remember how we used to go to the forest together when we were younger?
Need pikad jalutuskäigud kevadises metsas...“
Those long walks in the spring forest..."
Mati proovis vestlust lõdvendada, kuid tema katse jäi vastuseta.
Mati tried to ease the conversation, but his attempt went unanswered.
Liisa tõstis pilgu, tema hääl kõlas külmana.
Liisa lifted her gaze, her voice cold.
„Jah, enne kui kõik muutus,“ ütles ta napilt.
"Yes, before everything changed," she said succinctly.
See oli see hetk, mida Mati kartnud oli.
It was the moment Mati had dreaded.
Before he could say anything, Kaarel suddenly interrupted him.
„Muide, Liisa, sa unustasid rääkida, miks sa isa juurest lahkusid.
"By the way, Liisa, you forgot to mention why you left Dad.
See oli suur löök meile kõigile.“
It was a big blow to all of us."
Ruumis valitses vaikus.
Silence prevailed in the room.
Kõik pilgud pöördusid Liisa poole, kelle silmad särasid nüüd vihast.
All eyes turned to Liisa, whose eyes now sparkled with anger.
„Kaarel, sa tead täpselt, miks ma lahkusin.
"Kaarel, you know exactly why I left.
Sa olid ju seal,“ vastas Liisa tungivalt.
You were there," replied Liisa emphatically.
Mati teadis, et peab midagi tegema.
Mati knew he had to do something.
He took a deep breath and said calmly, "Listen, we can't change the past,
aga me saame püüelda rahu poole.
but we can strive for peace.
Meie hulgas on ainult kolm inimest, kellega me tõeliselt saame arvestada.“
Among us, there are only three people we can truly count on."
Liisa ja Kaarel vaatasid üksteisele otsa.
Liisa and Kaarel looked at each other.
There wasn't much trace of mutual understanding, but at least it was a start.
„Olgu, ehk võiksime leppida, et räägime neist asjadest?“
"Alright, maybe we can agree to talk about these things?"
pakkus Kaarel leplikumalt.
suggested Kaarel more conciliatorily.
„Ma olen nõus,“ vastas Liisa peaaegu kuuldamatult.
"I'm willing," replied Liisa almost inaudibly.
„Vast ehk saame millalgi leida ühist meelt.“
"Perhaps someday we can find common ground."
Mati watched with relief as his sister and brother finally began to talk to each other.
He realized that keeping the family together was like tending to a spring garden—it needed time and patience.
Rahu saavutamine ei olnud midagi, mida sai korraga teha.
Achieving peace wasn't something that could be done all at once.
Rather, Mati understood that his role was sometimes simply to open the door to dialogue.
By the end of the evening, they were still sitting around the table, but the atmosphere had calmed.
Even if not all problems were solved, there was at least a glimmer of hope.
Kevadine õhtu oli ikkagi toonud endaga uusi võimalusi.
The spring evening had indeed brought new possibilities.
