The sky over Berlin is gray, a typical autumn day.
It's Oktoberfest, but today Klaus and Lena are not in the mood to celebrate.
They are on their way to the hospital to visit Klaus' grandmother.
The hospital is large, white, and a bit overwhelming.
In the reception hall, it smells of disinfectant, but through the large windows, warm golden light falls on the floor.
Draußen tanzen Herbstblätter im Wind.
Outside, autumn leaves are dancing in the wind.
Klaus holds a bag tightly in his hand.
Darin steckt ein selbstgemachter Schal.
Inside is a homemade scarf.
He has spent a long time knitting it in blue and gray – his grandmother likes this color combination.
Lena läuft neben ihm.
Lena walks beside him.
Ihre Schritte sind leicht und voller Energie.
Her steps are light and full of energy. "
Klaus, she'll be happy to see you.
You'll see," she says with an encouraging smile.
Klaus nods, but the worry remains on his face.
Sie betreten den Raum 207.
They enter room 207.
The grandmother is lying in bed, surrounded by cards and flowers.
When she sees Klaus, her eyes light up.
"Klaus!
"Klaus!
Wie schön, dass du da bist!"
How lovely that you're here!"
ruft sie aus.
she exclaims.
Ihre Stimme ist schwach, aber voller Freude.
Her voice is weak but full of joy.
Klaus steps closer to the bed, awkwardly not saying a word.
He hands her the scarf that he made so carefully.
"Für dich, Oma", flüstert er.
"For you, Oma," he whispers.
His grandmother smiles and strokes the scarf with trembling hands.
"So schön, mein Junge.
"So beautiful, my boy.
Danke", sagt sie.
Thank you," she says.
Tears of emotion rise in her eyes.
Next to them stands Lena, beaming, her hands clasped behind her back.
She knows that her energy is not needed now.
Klaus sits on the chair next to the bed.
His fear slowly melts away as he sees how grateful his grandmother is for his presence.
He realizes that his presence alone means a lot.
Mehr als tausend Worte oder Geschenke.
More than a thousand words or gifts.
Lena places a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Siehst du, Klaus?
"See, Klaus?
Du bist das beste Geschenk für sie."
You are the best gift for her."
Klaus nickt und lächelt endlich ein bisschen.
Klaus nods and finally smiles a bit.
His uncertainty gives way to a new feeling of connection and peace.
He tells his grandmother about school, about his plans, and how Lena always supports him.
By the end of the visit, he is more certain of his worth to his family and friends.
As they leave the hospital, the fog of worries lifts from him.
The autumn wind swirls the leaves around them, and Lena says, "Maybe we'll go to Oktoberfest later after all."
Klaus laughs softly and replies, "Yes, that sounds good."
Today, he has learned something important: sometimes it's enough just to be there.
The festival outside in the city is not as important as the celebration in the heart that arises when you are there for the people you love.
