Karel, oblečený ve své námořnické uniformě, se zhluboka nadechl.

Dnes měl důležitý úkol – koupit zásoby na dlouhou plavbu a najít něco, co mu připomene domov v Česku.

Today, he had an important task—to buy supplies for the long voyage and find something that would remind him of home in Czechia.

Uvnitř komisaře byla spousta lidí.

Inside the commissary, there were lots of people.

Angličtina zněla ze všech stran, ale Karel měl pocit, že nerozumí ani slovu.

English was coming from all directions, but Karel felt like he couldn’t understand a word.

Chodil mezi regály plnými plechovek a krabic a intenzivně hledal známé názvy.

He walked among shelves full of cans and boxes, intensely searching for familiar names.

Marně.

In vain.

Každý krok mezi policemi jej jen více a více mátl.

Each step between the aisles only confused him more and more.

„Ahoj, Kareli,“ ozvalo se za ním přátelským hlasem.

“Hi, Karel,” a friendly voice called from behind him.

Jana a Petra, dvě kamarádky a kolegyně z Česka, se objevily vedle něj.

Jana and Petra, two friends and colleagues from Czechia, appeared next to him.

Obě se tu už dobře zorientovaly.

Both had already got their bearings here.

„Potřebuješ pomoc?“ zeptala se Jana s úsměvem.

“Do you need help?” Jana asked with a smile.

Karel přikývl s úlevou.

Karel nodded with relief.

Přiznání, že se cítí ztracený, nebylo snadné, ale už byla opravdu nutkavá potřeba něco udělat.

Admitting that he felt lost wasn’t easy, but the need to take action was really pressing.

„Najít něco známého je tady složité,“ svěřil se Karel, zatímco ukazoval na regály plné neznámých značek.

“Finding something familiar here is difficult,” Karel confided, pointing to shelves full of unfamiliar brands.

Petra mu položila ruku na rameno.

Petra placed a hand on his shoulder.

„Víš co, najdeme ti něco, co ti udělá radost,“ povzbudila ho.

“You know what, we’ll find you something that will make you happy,” she encouraged him.

Společně začali procházet policiemi.

Together, they began to go through the shelves.

Jana ukázala na plechovky s knedlíky, které by mohly být podobné těm českým.

Jana pointed to cans with dumplings that might be similar to those in the Czech Republic.

Petra našla zatím výběr sušenek, které připomínaly Karelovi babiččino pečení.

Petra meanwhile found a selection of cookies that reminded Karel of his grandmother’s baking.

Alespoň to byl pocit blízkosti.

At least it was a feeling of closeness.

„A toto!

“And this!

Podívej!“ zvolala Jana.

Look!” Jana exclaimed.

Zvedla balíček žvýkaček, které Karel často kupoval na střední škole.

She held up a packet of chewing gum that Karel often bought in high school.

Úsměv se mu vrátil na tvář, když v něm probudily známé vzpomínky.

A smile returned to his face as it awakened familiar memories.

Nakonec, díky pomoci Jany a Petry, skončil s nákupem plným potřeb a několika věcmi, které mu na lodi budou připomínat domov.

In the end, thanks to Jana and Petra's help, he ended up with a cart full of necessities and a few things that would remind him of home on the ship.

I když to nebyly přesně stejné produkty, vyvolávaly v něm pocit pohody a štěstí.

Even though they weren’t exactly the same products, they evoked feelings of comfort and happiness in him.

Cestou ven z komisaře se Karel opět nadechl svěžího mořského vzduchu.

On the way out of the commissary, Karel breathed in the fresh sea air again.

Jak se procházel zelení základny, už se necítil tak sám.

As he walked through the greenery of the base, he didn’t feel so alone anymore.

Věděl, že na svou cestu do neznáma nebude sám.

He knew he wouldn’t be alone on his journey into the unknown.

Měl přátele, na které se může spolehnout.

He had friends he could count on.

Laskavost a přátelství byly skutečným darem, který si odnášel z tohoto nákupního dobrodružství.

Kindness and friendship were the real gifts he took away from this shopping adventure.
