The winter morning on Karlův Bridge was freezing but beautiful.

Pod ledově modrou oblohou se proti chvění starobylých staveb majestátně tyčil Pražský hrad.

Under the icy blue sky, Pražský hrad majestically towered against the backdrop of the trembling ancient structures.

Turisté kolem byli zabalení v šálách, dech jim tvořil obláčky páry a z dálky voněla skořice z horkých kaštanů.

The tourists around were wrapped in scarves, their breath forming little clouds of steam, and from afar came the scent of cinnamon from the hot chestnuts.

Jitka byla nervózní.

Jitka was nervous.

Dnes měla vést svou první prohlídku.

Today she was to lead her first tour.

Vedle ní stál Ladislav, zkušený průvodce a její mentor.

Next to her stood Ladislav, an experienced guide and her mentor.

"Dneska to zvládneš," usmál se povzbudivě.

"You'll do fine today," he smiled encouragingly.

Jitka přikývla a zhluboka se nadechla.

Jitka nodded and took a deep breath.

Skupina turistů se pomalu sbírala kolem ní.

A group of tourists slowly gathered around her.

Mezi nimi byla Tereza, která už na první pohled vypadala zvědavě, ale také trochu náročně.

Among them was Tereza, who at first glance looked curious but also a bit demanding.

Jitka začala: "Dobrý den, vítám vás v Praze!

Jitka began: "Good morning, welcome to Praha!

Toto je Karlův most, jeden z nejstarších a nejznámějších mostů v Evropě."

This is Karlův Bridge, one of the oldest and most famous bridges in Europe."

Vyprávěla o jeho historii, o tom, jak byl postaven v roce 1357 za vlády Karla IV. Tereza vzápětí zvedla ruku a zeptala se: "Kolik soch je na mostě a které je nejstarší?"

She talked about its history and how it was built in 1357 during the reign of Karel IV.

Byla to složitá otázka, ale ne nerozumná.

Tereza immediately raised her hand and asked: "How many statues are on the bridge and which one is the oldest?"

Jitka se snažila zůstat klidná.

It was a complicated question, but not unreasonable.

"Na mostě je třicet soch, a jedna z nejstarších je socha svatého Jana Nepomuckého, která byla vytvořena v roce 1683."

Jitka tried to remain calm.

Tereza přikývla, ale vypadala, jako by jí to nestačilo.

"There are thirty statues on the bridge, and one of the oldest is the statue of St. John of Nepomuk, which was created in 1683."

Jitka pokračovala v prohlídce, snažila se zapojit skupinu do diskuse.

Tereza nodded, but she seemed like it wasn’t enough for her.

Všímala si, že Ladislav pozoruje její snahu s úsměvem a občas jemně přikyvuje na znamení, že to jde dobře.

Jitka continued with the tour, trying to engage the group in discussion.

Najednou Tereza vznesla další obtížný dotaz o jedné zapomenuté soše, o které Jitka slyšela jen jednou.

She noticed that Ladislav was observing her efforts with a smile and occasionally nodded gently as a sign that things were going well.

Cítila, jak jí srdce buší, ale vzpomněla si na něco z přednášky z vysoké školy.

Suddenly, Tereza posed another difficult question about an obscure statue Jitka had only heard about once.

Zavřela oči, na okamžik se soustředila a pak odpověděla s jistotou.

She felt her heart pounding but remembered something from a lecture in college.

"Tato socha představuje svatého Luitgarda, a je známá díky zvláštní legendě, kdy svatá žena údajně viděla Krista."

She closed her eyes, concentrated for a moment, and then answered with confidence, "This statue represents St. Luitgarda, and it's known for a peculiar legend where the saintly woman allegedly saw Christ."

Jitčina odpověď zaujala nejen Terezu, ale i ostatní.

Jitka's answer intrigued not only Tereza but the others as well.

Skupina začala klást další otázky, ale tentokrát přátelsky a s nadšením.

The group started asking more questions, but this time in a friendly and enthusiastic manner.

Celá prohlídka skončila u úpatí mostu.

The entire tour concluded at the foot of the bridge.

Jitka se s úsměvem podívala na Ladislava, který měl na tváři hrdý výraz.

Jitka looked at Ladislav with a smile, who had a proud expression on his face.

Turisté se najednou začali tleskat.

The tourists suddenly began to applaud.

Dokonce i Tereza se usmála a zatleskala jí také.

Even Tereza smiled and clapped for her as well.

"Dobrá práce," pochválil ji Ladislav a dodal: "Není důležité vědět všechno, ale vědět, jak zaujmout."

"Good job," complimented Ladislav and added, "It's not important to know everything but to know how to engage."

Jitka se uvolněně zasmála.

Jitka laughed comfortably.

Z pražské zimy už neměla strach.

She was no longer afraid of the winter in Praha.

Věděla, že zvládla svůj první den a že má co nabídnout.

She knew she had succeeded on her first day and that she had something to offer.
