Però, durant una parada per dinar, Laia havia desaparegut.

But during a lunch break, Laia had disappeared.

La preocupació s'havia escampat com una ombra en els seus cors.

Worry spread like a shadow in their hearts.

Arnau era escèptic.

Arnau was skeptical.

"Segur que només s'ha distret", deia, però Montserrat sentia que alguna cosa més estava passant.

"I'm sure she just got distracted," he said, but Montserrat felt that something else was happening.

Amb cada pas que feien pel bosc frondós, Montserrat recordava pistes sobre l'entorn, les rutes i els llocs amagats que la seva àvia li havia descrit quan era petita.

With each step they took through the thick forest, Montserrat remembered clues about the surroundings, the routes, and the hidden places that her grandmother had described to her as a child.

Decidí prendre la iniciativa.

She decided to take the initiative.

"Em recordaré l'última vegada que vam veure Laia i on podria haver volgut anar", va dir, guiada per un impuls sobtat.

"I'll remember the last time we saw Laia and where she might have wanted to go," she said, guided by a sudden impulse.

Començaren a buscar.

They started searching.

Els arbres es tancaven al seu voltant com un exercit silenciòs.

The trees closed around them like a silent army.

Però Montserrat mantenia la calma, confiant en la seva intuïció.

But Montserrat remained calm, trusting her intuition.

Arnau seguia dubtant, però Montserrat ja no pensava en la seva por de perdre's.

Arnau continued to doubt, but Montserrat no longer thought about her fear of getting lost.

Quan el sol començava a pondre's, les ombres allargaven.

As the sun began to set, the shadows lengthened.

Montserrat va notar una esquerda entre dues roques.

Montserrat noticed a crack between two rocks.

S'hi apropà, i el seu cor s’accelerà.

She approached, and her heart raced.

Un petit sender portava a una diminuta cova que només un ull alerta hauria notat.

A small path led to a tiny cave that only an alert eye would have noticed.

Dins, la llum escassa il·luminava una marca al terra: una petita cinta vermella, com la que Laia portava al cabell.

Inside, the scarce light illuminated a mark on the ground: a small red ribbon, like the one Laia wore in her hair.

Allò era una pista!

That was a clue!

Tornant a sortir, Montserrat cridà a l'Arnau, que la seguia amb unes passes de distància.

Going back outside, Montserrat called to Arnau, who was following a few steps behind.

"És aquí!", va exclamar amb la veu plena d'esperança.

"It's here!" she exclaimed, with her voice full of hope.

Amb esforços conjunts, van cridar el nom de Laia i la seva veu va tornar com un ressò que jugava amb el vent.

With joint efforts, they called Laia's name, and her voice returned like an echo playing with the wind.

Un moment després, una resposta s'aixecà des de dins de la cova: "Sóc aquí!". Laia havia entrat per curiositat i no havia sabut com sortir.

A moment later, a response arose from inside the cave: "I'm here!" Laia had entered out of curiosity and didn't know how to get out.

El retrobament fou alegre.

The reunion was joyful.

Tanmateix, mentre tornaven pel camí incògnit, una cosa havia canviat en Montserrat.

However, as they returned along the unfamiliar path, something had changed in Montserrat.

Sentia una confiança nova.

She felt a newfound confidence.

La por que durant anys havia sentit semblava menys aterridora.

The fear she had felt for years seemed less terrifying.

Sabia ara que els camins desconeguts podien portar a llocs inesperats i que dins seu tenia la força per trobar-ne la sortida.

She now knew that unknown paths could lead to unexpected places and that within her, she had the strength to find her way out.

La nit caigué, i el grup tornà al poble per celebrar el que quedava de la festa de la Mercè.

Night fell, and the group returned to the village to celebrate the remaining part of the festa de la Mercè.

Montserrat somiava amb els misteris de Montserrat, però també amb l'amistat i la confiança que havia trobat.

Montserrat dreamed of the mysteries of Montserrat, but also of the friendship and trust she had found.

I sota la llum de la lluna, la muntanya semblava somriure.

And under the moonlight, the mountain seemed to smile.
