The sound of footsteps on the yellowed leaves echoed in the air around the Rilski Monastery.
An entire class, led by their history teacher, moved through the majestic corridors of this ancient complex.
Stoyan, with cheeks red from the cold air, walked at the back of the group.
His gaze continuously lingered on every detail of the frescoes.
Nade, as her classmates called her, led the way.
She spoke with infectious enthusiasm about the architecture and history of the monastery.
Everyone listened with interest.
Stoyan felt that he could never speak so confidently.
Mila, having isolated herself to the side, was making light strokes with her pencil, capturing the beauty of the autumn landscape in her sketchbook.
She noticed Stoyan and smiled encouragingly at him.
Stoyan knew he wanted to impress the teacher with an important observation, but the words wouldn't come out when it was time to speak.
Nade knew everything—or at least he thought so.
He gathered his courage and after a moment approached her.
"Nade, can I ask you for help?" he asked hesitantly.
"Of course, Stoyane! What is it?" she replied with a warm smile.
"I have an interesting fact about the monastery, but I don't know how to present it..."
She listened to him and suggested he address the students with a confident voice and share the fact when the teacher asked a question.
Stoyan took a deep breath when the teacher called for the students' opinions.
He raised his hand and everyone turned their attention to him.
"Did you know that the monastery houses one of the oldest manuscripts in Cyrillic?" he said a bit timidly, but with increasing confidence.
The teacher smiled approvingly, and the classmates began to discuss animatedly.
Nade looked at him with pride.
When the excursion ended and the students headed back to the bus, Stoyan felt his confidence had grown.
That day he realized that he had something to say and that his words were important.
As the autumn wind played with the leaves, Stoyan promised himself to speak more often.
And Nade and Mila already knew that Stoyan's interesting ideas made the days more memorable.
