Under the bright spring sky of Stellenbosch, with its soft light and the fragrant breeze blowing through the vineyards, Anika walks slowly between the rows of grapes.

She has just returned from the city for the family reunion on the family farm.

The farm was her playground as a child, the place where her heart learned to beat for nature.

Koenraad, her older brother, stands with his hands on his hips and watches how the workers collect the grapes.

He has long been called the responsible one in the family.

His face now bears permanent signs of the burden of managing the family farm.

Madelief, the youngest, runs with her long hair bouncing in the wind.

She dreams big, longing to see the world beyond the vineyards.

  • “Anika!

    "Anika!"

  • ” roep Koenraad, en sy draai om.

calls Koenraad, and she turns around.

  • “Dis goed om jou hier te hê.

"It's good to have you here.

  • Ons benodig elke hand vir die oes.

We need every hand for the harvest.

  • Ek is bly jy is hier.

    I'm glad you're here."

  • ”Anika glimlag, maar in haar hart woed 'n stryd.

Anika smiles, but in her heart, a struggle rages.

The city has taught her much: speed, competition, ambitions.

But here, under the Stellenbosch sky, she feels the magical calm of her childhood.

During lunch, under the big old oak tree, the family talks like they haven't in a long time.

The table is full: farm bread, fresh cheese, and, of course, wine from their own vineyard.

The conversation turns to the future of the farm.

  • “Madelief wil dalk verder studeer.

"Madelief maybe wants to study further.

I don't know if we can afford it," says Koenraad worriedly.

  • Sy woorde maak Anika ongemaklik.

    His words make Anika uneasy.

She knows there is an expectation that she should lend a hand, help with the farm.

  • Maar haar drome, haar eie pad, roep hard.

But her dreams, her own path, call out loudly.

As the sun begins to set, the air cools, and the scenery becomes beautiful.

Anika feels the time for a decision draw near.

  • Die druiwe-oes is in volle swang.

The grape harvest is in full swing.

And so, amidst grapevines and the heady bustle of people coming closer to their roots, Anika decides to talk to her family.

"I've made a decision," she says firmly, as everyone gathers to hear her.

  • “Ek gaan my werk in die stad behou.

"I'm going to keep my job in the city.

  • Maar.

    But...

  • ek wil ook help.

    I also want to help.

I want to make a plan to market our wine online.

It could bring us more clients, and I can work from the city."

Koenraad looks at her closely, and a small smile appears around his mouth.

  • “Dit kan werk,” sê hy met 'n knik.

"That could work," he says with a nod.

  • Madelief klap haar hande saam van opgewondenheid.

Madelief claps her hands together in excitement.

  • “Jy maak alles moontlik, Anika!

    "You make everything possible, Anika!"

  • ”En daar, onder die sterre van die Stellenbosch-lug, vind Anika vrede.

And there, under the stars of the Stellenbosch sky, Anika finds peace.

She now knows that she doesn't have to choose.

The city runs through her veins, but her roots lie deep in the rich soil of her family farm.

She has found what she has long sought: balance between her dreams and her home.

  • En in daardie balans het sy tuisgekom.

And in that balance, she has found her home.
