  • Die herfswind waai liggies oor die verlate terrein.

The autumn wind blows gently over the deserted terrain.

Mara and Johan walk slowly over the barren earth.

Yellow and red leaves lie like a carpet under their feet.

The buildings that were once proud structures are now just empty shells, memories of a lost time.

  • Mara kyk na die verduisterde son.

Mara looks at the darkened sun.

  • Paasfees is verby sonder vieringe, sonder vreugde.

Easter has passed without celebrations, without joy.

But she cherishes hope, a small light in the darkness.

  • Johan stap langs haar, sy gesig ernstig.

Johan walks beside her, his face serious.

He makes an effort to remain calm, always alert to danger.

  • "Hou jy nog vas aan daardie kaart?

"Are you still holding onto that map?"

  • " vra Johan terwyl hy rondkyk.

Johan asks as he looks around.

He hopes to find clues to safety.

  • Mara knik.

    Mara nods.

"Yes, it's the only thing I can rely on.

But I don't know if I can believe in the rumors."

  • "Johan glimlag flou.

    Johan smiles faintly.

  • "Selfs gerugte het 'n kern van waarheid.

"Even rumors have a kernel of truth.

  • Ons moet kies of ons die langer, veiliger pad vat of die korter, gevaarliker een.

We have to choose whether to take the longer, safer route or the shorter, more dangerous one."

  • "Mara huiwer.

    Mara hesitates.

  • Haar gees is sterk, maar twyfel knaag.

Her spirit is strong, but doubt gnaws.

"I think we should try the shorter route.

  • Ons het amper geen kos oor nie.

We have almost no food left."

  • "Die besluit gemaak, stap hulle verder.

The decision made, they walk further.

  • Die atmosfeer word dik van spanning.

The atmosphere becomes thick with tension.

  • 'n Koue trek oor die grond.

A chill moves across the ground.

Suddenly, a group of robbers appears among the trees.

  • Hulle gesigte is hard en genadeloos.

Their faces are hard and merciless.

  • Johan trek 'n mes uit sy sak.

Johan draws a knife from his pocket.

  • "Bly agter my," sê hy, sy stem vasberade.

"Stay behind me," he says, his voice determined.

  • Die skermutseling is kort, maar intens.

The skirmish is short but intense.

Mara, caught between fear and determination, reveals the map.

  • Die rowers, verras deur haar moed, huiwer.

The robbers, surprised by her courage, hesitate.

"We're just looking for a safe harbor," says Johan.

  • "En julle?

    "And you?"

After a moment of silence, an older robber steps forward.

  • "Daar is 'n plek," erken hy sag.

"There is a place," he admits softly.

  • "Niet ver.

    "Not far."

Mara and Johan leave the robbers behind and flee further.

  • Hulle harte klop vinnig.

    Their hearts beat quickly.

  • Die ouer man het waarheid gespreek.

The older man had spoken the truth.

Finally, they reach a hill, and there, in the distance, they see signs of life.

  • Mara voel 'n rus in haar hart.

Mara feels a peace in her heart.

Johan smiles for the first time in weeks.

Their journey has come to an end, but a new beginning awaits.

They have learned to trust, and hope shines brighter than ever before.
