Die somerhitte buite die hospitaal dik gemaak die stad se strate stil.
The summer heat outside the hospitaal thickened, making the city streets silent.
Inside the lecture hall, Hendrik was rummaging through his school notes.
Die groot vertoonkamer was koel, met baie stoele en 'n projektor wat gereed was vir sy lesing.
The large presentation room was cool, with plenty of chairs and a projector ready for his lecture.
He was a dedicated doctor, but every time he had to speak in front of a group, his hands began to sweat.
Vandag moes hy 'n groep mediese studente toespreek.
Today he had to address a group of medical students.
It was important for them, but also for him.
Hy wou inspireer, nie net lesing gee nie.
He wanted to inspire, not just give a lecture.
His glasses slipped slightly as he looked at his notes: facts, figures, process.
"Ek moet perfek wees," het hy gedink.
"I must be perfect," he thought.
Die klok het dertienuur geslaan.
The clock struck one o'clock.
Students began to come in and took their seats.
Jong gesigte, verwagtend.
Young faces, expectant.
Hendrik kon voel hoe sy maag draai.
Hendrik could feel his stomach turn.
Hy het sy notas stywer vasgehou.
He held his notes tighter.
"Don't worry," he whispered to himself.
But the fear was there, like a constant presence.
Die tyd vir die begin was hier.
The time to start had arrived.
He stood up and turned to the screen.
With a dry throat, he began to speak.
Alles volgens sy notas, styf en afgemete.
Everything according to his notes, stiff and measured.
His voice trembled slightly, all his rehearsals forgotten in the face of his anxiety.
Suddenly, in the middle of his narrative, a student's hand went up.
"'Dok, hoekom het hierdie siekte so 'n impak op jonger pasiënte?
"'Dok, why does this disease have such an impact on younger patients?'
' het sy gevra.
she asked.
Hendrik het stilgehou.
Hendrik paused.
It wasn't in his notes, not part of his prepared script.
But in that moment, something clicked in Hendrik's head.
He could continue with his writing, talk through the book – or he could follow this new path.
His passion for medicine spilled over his fear.
Hy het besluit.
He decided.
A deep breath, and Hendrik put his notes down.
Die studente het hom nuuskierig aangekyk.
The students looked at him curiously.
"Let's make this a conversation," he said.
Die ys was gebreek.
The ice was broken.
He began to tell a story, not just facts.
Experiences, issues, something the young doctors could feel and understand.
Met elke vraag het Hendrik meer oopgemaak.
With each question, Hendrik opened up more.
He forgot about the nerves, he thought about the impact he could have.
The conversation was lively, and the students listened with interest.
By the end of the session, the anxiety within him quieted.
He knew he didn’t always have to be rigid.
He could share his love for his field with others in a way that was genuine and engaging.
Hendrik reached the end, not just a lecture, but an experience.
A smile lit up his face when a student approached and said, "Thank you, Dokter.
Dit was ongelooflik insigryk.
That was incredibly insightful."
Hendrik knew his fear was still there, but now he had a new plan: to use the passion burning inside him to overcome the anxiety.
And in that light, bright hall, with the sun shining outside, Hendrik took a step closer to his goal.
